The Maserati Levante Trofeo was the highest-performing version of the brand’s SUV when it launched in 2019, complete with a new Ferrari-developed V8 engine under the hood that was tuned to challenge some of the fastest SUVs on the road. Look for 7,000 RPM on the tachometer, 590 horsepower under your right foot, and a soundtrack that plays through your brain while you’re away from the wheel. Though the Levante Trofeo’s current second-hand pricing sure looks appetizing, owning one of the most exotic SUVs on the road may not be for everyone.

Here’s How Maserati Levante Trofeo Pricing Stacks Up Today

The Levante Trofeo you’re considering probably cost its original owner $150,000 or more. Today, you could pay half that amount for a second-hand unit that hasn’t yet seen its second oil change. Things get even more tempting as odometer readings climb. Shoppers with sufficient resources to tackle the Levante Trofeo’s ongoing maintenance and repairs over the longer term may find this a particularly enticing buy, available for around $60,000, where units with 20,000 to 40,000 miles on their odometers are beginning to appear. That’s roughly a tenth of what you can expect to pay for a Ferrari Purosangue.

On the high end of the pricing spectrum, some units with odometer readings under 2,000 miles remain priced well into six-figure territory, including one 2023 Levante Trofeo with just 465 miles on its odometer, which comes with a $117,000 asking price. As odometer readings reach the low teens, used Maserati Levante Trofeo pricing begins to drop rapidly.

The most reliable used Levante Trofeo you can buy will likely be the one that has been most meticulously maintained by its previous owner(s) in a dealership setting, with full service records available. Read these carefully, and don’t be too scared of warranty repairs or recall work, which means potentially problematic parts have already been taken care of.

The Levante Trofeo Ran Maserati’s Most Powerful Engine Yet

When it arrived under the hood of the Levante Trofeo for the 2019 model year, the re-engineered 3.8-liter V8 engine became the most powerful Maserati engine of the day. In the US market, 590 horsepower was at the driver’s disposal. This application was also the first use of the upgraded V8 engine with the brand’s Q4 Intelligent AWD system.

An evolution of the Quattroporte GTS unit, this compact V8 features two new turbochargers with exclusive impeller-wheel designs for enhanced flow performance. Each turbocharger handles one cylinder bank and exhales through its own intercooler. New camshafts and a high-tumble intake manifold were fitted to master airflow into the combustion chambers, with specific pistons, connecting rods, a new crankshaft design, and revised engine computer tuning.

Shoppers should note that the Levante Trofeo is capable of a surprisingly comfortable ride, given the high-performing intentions. Although the engine is an absolute rush, capable of delivering nearly horrifying acceleration and a supercar soundtrack, the ride in more laid-back drive modes isn’t far off from that of a luxury sports sedan. Advanced AWD and one of the most sophisticated suspension systems on the road were also on board.

The Levante Trofeo’s suspension features air-adjustability for ride height, as well as selective damping via the Skyhook system. On the fly, drivers can control the Levante Trofeo’s ride height and suspension damping characteristics for the task at hand. From low and stiff to lifted and softened, changes to the suspension can be called up at a button press and take just moments to engage.

    Air Spring Ride Height Strategy

    • Off-road 2: +1.6 in ride height. Over 25 MPH, turns to Off-road 1 level
    • Off-road 1: +1.0 in ride height. Over 56 MPH, turns to Normal level.
    • Normal or I.C.E. / Sport: 8.2 in (base) ride height. Over 81 MPH, lowers to the Aero 1 level.
    • Normal or I.C.E. / Sport: 8.2 in (base) ride height. Over 115 MPH, lowers to the Aero 2 level.
    • Aero 1: –0.8 in ride height. Under 56 MPH, returns to Normal level.
    • Aero 2: –1.4 in ride height. Under 87 MPH, returns to Aero 1 level.

The Q4 AWD system is a highly flexible performer, too. In everyday driving, the multi-plate wet-clutch system disengages front axle power, delivering 100% of engine torque to the rear axle. This ensures a rear-drive responsiveness, even in slippery conditions. Up to 50% of the engine’s power can be sent to the front axle in 150 milliseconds when required, helping to mitigate wheel spin or stabilize the vehicle as it exits a bend.

Useful Considerations Before You Buy A Ferrari-Powered SUV

Owning a Maserati Levante Trofeo can be a very enjoyable experience, according to many happy drivers. However, it can also be a headache if the unit you buy conceals potential problems or lacks maintenance from past owners. Sometimes, you buy an SUV because it’s sensible, cheap to run, and not likely to require much of your attention. The Maserati Levante Trofeo is not one of these.

When it comes to ongoing maintenance and care, you’re looking at an oil change, filter change, and air filter replacement every 12,500 miles, at the maximum, or once a year, alongside various inspections. One dealership in Scottsdale lists the price for this annual service at $380. Some owners choose to lower these intervals for long-term peace of mind.

Your Levante Trofeo needs new drive belts every four years or less, and new spark plugs every 37,500 miles or three years at the very most. Expect to pay $1,100 to $1,500 for these services at a dealership. Note that those prices aren’t specifically for the Levante Trofeo, which could incur higher costs due to pricier parts and fluids.

Same logic for tires and brakes. Expect to pay top dollar for the high-performance rubber required to harness the Levante Trofeo’s incredible power, as well as the monster pads and rotors required to bring it down from speed in a jiff.

Heavy-duty usage, defined by the owner’s manual as things like off-road driving, repeated short drives, excessive idling, excessive periods of low-speed driving, or the presence of mud or dust in the engine compartment, all speed up these intervals. This is not an engine to push your luck with by stretching oil change or spark plug miles.

To summarize, the Maserati Levante Trofeo is not a Toyota Corolla. Budgeting $4,500 for regular maintenance and servicing across a five-year ownership experience of this SUV is highly reasonable. A contingency fund for unexpected repairs is also strongly advised. Be sure to check that insurance rates in your area fall within your budget before going too far down the Levante Trofeo research rabbit hole. Finally, if Ferrari power in your next SUV doesn’t pan out, there’s always the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk.
