CATL (HKEX: 3750) continued to dominate China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery market last month, but its share declined further as BYD (HKEX: 1211) narrowed the gap with the industry leader.

CATL’s domestic power battery installations totaled 32.54 GWh in August, ranking first with a 41.45% market share, according to data released Tuesday by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

The company’s installations rose about 3.6% from July’s 31.40 GWh, but its share fell from 42.33% as growth lagged the broader market.

China’s power battery installations reached 79.0 GWh in August, up 26.3% year-on-year and 5.9% from July, marking the highest monthly total this year, according to CABIA.
