Kei trucks have quietly carved out a devoted following in the United States, and it’s easy to see why. These pint-sized Japanese workhorses offer something the domestic truck market simply can’t: extreme compactness, surprising practicality, and running costs that make a full-size pickup look extravagant by comparison. At the center of that growing interest sits one model in particular — the Honda Acty. Part miniature pickup, part cult classic, the Acty has become a go-to import for farmers, ranchers, and small-property owners who need a nimble work vehicle that fits where nothing else will. Here’s a closer look at its…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. We’ve known for a while now that General Motors is rolling out a pair of new small-block V8s with the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. However, the manufacturer has been tight-lipped on power specs—until now. The results are respectable, as the sixth-gen small-block V8 makes up to 481 horsepower and 501 lb-ft of torque in 6.6-liter form with no power-adders. In case you were wondering, that makes it the most powerful V8 in…
New research from Driivz says EV drivers are increasingly relying on recommendations from other EV owners when choosing where to charge, with 91 per cent willing to go out of their way for a charger another driver vouched for. The survey of more than 3,000 drivers across North America and Europe also found that 76 per cent would avoid an entire charging network based on a warning from friends or family. More than half of respondents said they would travel more than five minutes out of their way for a recommended location. The findings point to what Driivz describes as…
CATL and DHL Group representatives mark the signing of an MoU on green freight corridors in Europe in Hanover, Germany, on September 14, 2026. Credit: CATL The cooperation covers electric trucks, charging infrastructure and battery swapping pilots to help cut emissions from European road freight. The companies aim to develop a replicable model for freight electrification, including transport within CATL’s European supply chain. CATL (HKEX: 3750) and DHL Group have signed a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore green freight corridors in Europe, expanding their cooperation on logistics electrification. The companies announced the signing on September 14 in Hanover,…
Kia aims to sell 250,000 electric vans by 2030, with the PV7 and PV9 accounting for a larger share combined than the PV5. Kia bets on bigger electric vans to drive growth “The real game begins now,” Kia president and CEO Ho-Sung Song said after unveiling the PV7 for the first time at IAA Transportation on Monday. The PV7 is the second electric van from Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) series, following the PV5. Song told reporters at the event (via Yonhap News) that “We are in negotiations with more than 300 companies” and is working to secure fleet contracts…
When Xbox announced a new feature last month that lets you digitize existing physical game collections, I immediately thought of the Xbox One. Disc-to-digital seems like a clever new feature for Xbox, perfectly timed as a response to Sony killing PlayStation discs. But the reality is that it has been 15 years in the making and is now a big part of Xbox’s ongoing game preservation efforts.Ahead of the launch of the Xbox One in 2013, Microsoft made a key decision to uniquely identify discs. Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans tell me the company was exploring the idea of true…
Spend any time in enthusiast circles, and you’ll hear the same lament: modern trucks have grown too big, too heavy, and too complicated. Against that backdrop, a forgotten oddity from Chevrolet’s back catalog is quietly attracting a second look — the V8-powered Colorado. Built for just three model years before the nameplate went on hiatus, this compact truck packed a Hummer-sourced 5.3-liter LS V8 under its hood, making it one of the rarest factory small-block swaps ever to roll off a production line. If you’ve never heard of it, you’re not alone — and that’s exactly what makes it worth…
Automotive General Motors is giving traditional V8 truck buyers plenty to look forward to with its sixth-generation small-block engines, and we finally have the numbers that matter. The new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8s are headed for the redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, replacing the familiar 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter engines that have powered millions of GM trucks. According to Car and Driver, the new 5.7-liter L76 produces 402 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque, while the larger 6.6-liter L78 steps up to an impressive 481 horsepower and 501 pound-feet. Both trucks are expected to reach…
The company expects to start offering rides to the public in the country in 2028. Waymo Waymo has announced that it’s coming to Singapore, thereby expanding its presence in Asia and in regions outside of the US as a whole. Over the coming months, its first Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will be arriving on the island nation as the company prepares for future operations. Throughout 2027, Waymo’s specialists will manually drive its vehicles on Singapore’s streets to map them, and the company will make changes to its system to account for the country’s road geometry and weather patterns.…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. General Motors’ 3.0-liter Duramax is the only diesel half-ton truck engine left. It’s stout, with 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque; it’s efficient, hitting 30 miles per gallon on the highway in the real world; and it was smooth enough to be sold in the Cadillac Escalade. Thanks to a new 34-gallon fuel tank available on the 2027 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, the engine can also chug-a-lug along for more than 900…
