    • WeRide is partnering with Denmark’s GreenMobility and plans to launch commercial services in the first half of 2027.
    • Denmark is the sixth European market WeRide has entered.

Chinese autonomous driving company WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD) has announced its entry into Denmark, becoming the first Chinese robotaxi company to move into the Nordic region.

The company said on Monday that it had struck a strategic partnership with GreenMobility, a Danish shared electric mobility platform, to build Denmark’s first commercial autonomous shared mobility project.

Subject to regulatory approvals, the two plan to launch the service to the public in the first half of 2027.

Riders will be able to hail the GXR, WeRide’s latest-generation, EU-compliant Level 4 robotaxi.

Denmark is the sixth European country WeRide has entered. In March, the company announced its entry into Slovakia, and in June it said it would launch commercial services in Madrid, Spain, and Zurich, Switzerland.

Pushing into three European markets in little more than two months shows the company’s commercialization pace in Europe is picking up. WeRide already operates in France, Belgium and Switzerland.

The partnership continues WeRide’s asset-light model, relying on local operators’ fleet management capabilities and user channels to lower the cost of entering new markets.

GreenMobility runs the Nordic region’s largest free-floating car-sharing network, with a fleet of more than 1,500 EVs.

The two companies will work with the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) and the Danish Road Traffic Authority (Færdselsstyrelsen), conducting testing and deployment in line with current Danish and EU regulations.

Tony Han, WeRide’s founder and CEO, said the partnership is another milestone in the company’s European expansion, with the goal of establishing a model that can be scaled across international markets.

Kasper Gjedsted, group CEO of GreenMobility, said the company wants to extend the operating experience it has built up over millions of shared car trips into autonomous mobility.

WeRide’s autonomous driving products are now deployed in more than 40 cities, with a Level 4 fleet of over 3,000 vehicles and autonomous driving permits in eight countries.

Its partners include international mobility platforms such as Uber and Grab, as well as local operators including AVOMO, SBB, ioki, K2, Tawasul, AIDriver and Bayanat.

With competition intensifying at home, Chinese autonomous driving companies are turning en masse to Europe.

Pony AI (NASDAQ: PONY) said in April that it would work with Uber and Croatian startup Verne to launch what the companies called Europe’s first commercial robotaxi service.

Baidu’s Apollo Go unit and Lyft-owned ride-hailing app Freenow began road tests in London in late July.

Momenta (HKEX: 6880) said last week that it had been cleared to test robotaxis across Germany.

The adjustment takes effect June 4, about seven months after the two companies made their Hong Kong market debuts.
