How The ZDX’s Main Rivals Are Holding Up
We added a section to see how much the first Genesis GV60 and Cadillac Lyriq are worth today.
We all know what happens to electric cars when they drive off the lot. They lose a huge chunk of their value for simply existing, and when a car’s total production run only lasts a year, that effect gets even stronger. The Acura ZDX is a competent EV for the company’s first foray into this segment, and while the automaker is apprehensive about more wholescale adoption of the new tech, this SUV was a great buy when it was new.
Now, thanks to low resale values, it’s slipped into a price bracket that’s closer to a Toyota Camry, which is half of its original value. But is there something deeper below the surface as to why this Acura EV is so cheap secondhand, or is it simply a byproduct of being electric? Let’s find out.

The ZDX: A Short-Lived Acura EV

Before the Acura ZDX EV was ever even planned, the original ZDX was a coupe-SUV mashup that was raised off the ground, had four doors, and a slightly sloping roofline. It was a coupe SUV before the segment really took off towards the end of the 2010s, but when the new Acura electric SUV debuted for the 2024 model year, it took the same name and toned down the strange shape for a more wagon-like SUV.
It’s built on the Honda-General Motors collaboration platform, which is specifically built for battery-electric vehicles. That means it shares its underpinnings with cars like the Honda Prologue, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and Cadillac Lyriq. The Honda group has been very slow to adopt electric vehicles, and with changing market conditions and slower-than-anticipated sales, the car stopped production before the 2026 model year. The Prologue, its closest sibling, will continue to be built until its cancellation later this year.
An Impressive Powertrain
If the ZDX should be bought on the used market for one thing, it’s the powertrain, as the joint partnership between GM and Acura has brought great performance numbers to this SUV. The base model, called the rear-wheel-drive A-Spec, has a 358-horsepower and 324 lb-ft of torque single motor setup that can see this family SUV cover up to 313 miles. Adding all-wheel-drive brings power up to 490 horses and 437 lb-ft of torque, but lowers overall range to 304 miles.

Still, with many automakers struggling to reach the 300-mile benchmark in 2026, a used EV being able to do this is impressive. It could make you think twice about getting that Camry, too, as the instant torque of an electric motor combined with Acura’s strong handling dynamics makes it a strong price rival. The most powerful model is the Type S, which gets 500 horsepower but a big torque bump up to 544 lb-ft. It only has 278 miles of range though.
That means that most people will be happy with the RWD A-Spec, as over 300 instant horses is more than enough. Charging rates of 190 kW means that the ZDX can refill 81 miles of range in just ten minutes. The ZDX is able to use both CCS charging and the NACS charge port, giving it access to the impressive Tesla supercharger network.

Acura is a premium brand, and that means the driving sensations are effortless and refined. On the safety side, all ZDX models get AccuraWatch, which includes reverse automatic braking, blind-spot monitors, forward collision alert, and automatic braking, along iwth standard parking sensors. Despite all this, the ZDX didn’t win an IIHS safety award like its rivals, namely the Audi Q6 or Genesis GV70, did.
To take some of the stress out of driving, the ZDX also uses adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam headlights. The Type S makes everything even easier, adding features like a basic version of GM’s SuperCruise handsfree system, and a 360-degree camera. It can also park itself.
The ZDX Is A Purely Premium SUV

The Acura ZDX is a strong contender for one of the easiest cars on this shared platform to live with. That’s because while GM ditched CarPlay and Android Auto, this car comes with wireless connections for both, or Google’s built-in car software, should you wish not to connect your smartphone. There’s a physical volume knob to the left of the screen, and yes, physical HVAC controls underneath the central vents. The gauge cluster is digital in all versions of the Acura EV, though.

That’s a lot of features for the price, and it isn’t even an exhaustive list. Upgrading to the top-spec Type S version gets you features like more ambient lighting, heated rear seating, and rear HVAC controls that also have a tactile knob. A head-up display is also included alongside all the Type-S appearance features you’d expect, like sporty bumpers and exclusive colors. Air suspension is also included on the Type S, and it can lower the springs when in certain driving modes.
How Much Space Is There In An Acura ZDX?

In short, a lot, especially for rear passengers. Legroom is measured at 41.4/39.4 inches front/rear, and headroom is decent at 37.8/37 inches front/rear. That’s more than the new Camry we are comparing the ZDX’s price to, and when we take total passenger volume, the ZDX has six more cubic feet (105.1 cu-ft) than the Camry thanks to its SUV shape. Against other SUVs, it has more legroom than you’ll find in the Audi Q6, and only an inch less than in the Mercedes EQE SUV.
For cargo space, the long-SUV shape gives the ZDX a decent amount of room for your luggage. When all the seats are up, there’s 19.7 cubic feet of space, and when the rear 60/40 seats are folded down, it gives you access to 63 cubes. The Camry doesn’t have much to fight with here, with only 15.1 cubic feet of room for cargo.
How Much Does A Used Acura EV Cost?

Getting into a premium used electric SUV costs less than you think. A decent base-spec example with the longest range can set you back around $30k, which is just about the price of a new Toyota Camry in the US. If you want a low-mileage example, you’ll be pushing closer to $35k, while the Type S will start from around $37k. Some cars push past $40k, but we wouldn’t look at those as you can get a great deal easily for under $38k that has more features than a similar new car.
That’s a far cry from the original pricing structure for the ZDX, which started at $64,500 for the base A-Spec, going up to $73,500 for the Type S. That means that in only two years, this family SUV has lost about half of its original value. Prices have reached a baseline now, so if you grab this at prices at the time of writing, you probably won’t sell it for much less than you paid for it. Access to the Tesla Supercharger network definitely helps it in terms of overall value.

Thanks to diminishing EV values, the Acura electric car is in some stiff competition in the used market. That includes cars like the ever-present Tesla Model Y, Mercedes EQE SUV, and platform-sharing Chevrolet Blazer EV. These cars are all around the $32k mark, and each offers something unique, like Tesla’s huge 330-mile range, or Mercedes’ badge superiority. Electric cars are sometimes said to be a bit same-y, so we’d test drive each of these options to make sure you enjoy the way they drive.

We mentioned earlier that the ZDX is pitted against other luxury EVs like the Cadillac Lyriq (which it shares a platform with) in addition to the Genesis GV60. The ZDX loses approximately 58% of its value in five years, according to CarEdge — the Lyriq and GV60 aren’t very different. CarEdge estimates the Lyriq loses about 57% of its value after its first five years on the road, while the Genesis GV60 depreciates by 61% in the same timeframe.
Of course, those are just estimated depreciation figures. Both the Genesis GV60 and Cadillac Lyriq were introduced for the 2023 model year, so real-world 5-year depreciation data isn’t available yet. Nevertheless, they have both lost plenty of value already. Kelley Blue Book’s data shows the 2023 GV60 base model’s fair purchase price is $33,400. That’s approaching the halfway point between zero and its MSRP of $58,890. The Lyriq’s base model is valued at $33,000, which means it also lost nearly half of its original $59,990 price tag.
