    Specialized launches Turbo Levo 4 X, a full-suspension off-road cargo e-bike

Specialized is taking the increasingly popular concept of bikepacking and giving it a serious electric boost with the launch of the new Turbo Levo 4 X.

The company describes the model with a simple tagline: “Electric Overlanding.” Basically, this is the bike to take you and all your gear beyond where the trail stops, blazing your own path and your own adventure.

In practical terms, the Levo 4 X is essentially a Turbo Levo 4 outfitted for adventure travel, adding integrated front and rear cargo racks to Specialized’s flagship full-suspension electric mountain bike platform. The idea is to create an e-bike that can handle everything from singletrack trail riding to multi-day overland expeditions.

Specialized is so stoked about the possibilities, it led them to coin a new category for it: Electric Overland.

At the heart of the bike is the same high-performance S-Works 3.1 mid-drive motor found on the Levo 4, delivering up to 850 watts of peak power and an impressive 111 Nm of torque. Power comes from a large 840 Wh battery, with Specialized claiming ride times of up to 4.4 hours depending on terrain and assistance levels.

The Levo 4 X is built around the company’s FACT 11m carbon frame with integrated SWAT storage and adjustable geometry, allowing riders to fine-tune the bike’s handling characteristics. Suspension duties are handled by a 160 mm FOX 38 Factory fork up front and a 150 mm FOX Float X Factory rear shock with Specialized’s GENIE shock technology.

The premium build kit continues throughout the bike. SRAM XX Eagle T-Type AXS wireless shifting, SRAM Maven Ultimate four-piston brakes with oversized 220 mm front and 200 mm rear rotors, and carbon Roval Traverse wheels all reinforce that this is an uncompromising high-end machine.

What makes the Levo 4 X unique, however, are the high-performance cargo racks mounted front and rear. Rather than treating luggage as an afterthought, Specialized appears to have designed the bike around the idea that riders may be carrying camping gear, photography equipment, extra supplies, or anything else needed for extended adventures.

Technology also plays a big role. The bike features Specialized’s MasterMind TCU with a 2.2-inch display, full app customization, Apple Find My compatibility, and a 12-amp smart charger with multiple charging modes, including fast charging and an 80% battery preservation option.

Despite all of that capability, the bike weighs in at around 60 pounds (27.25 kg), which is hefty for a mountain bike but fairly reasonable for a full-suspension cargo-capable electric mountain bike with an 840 Wh battery. Yeah, it’s 10 kilos heavier than the company’s lightest eMTBs, but it’s designed to do a heck of a lot more, and with a lot more power.

Of course, premium performance comes with a premium price. The S-Works Turbo Levo 4 X carries a sticker price of $11,999, firmly placing it in the dream-bike category for many riders and e-bike journalists who died a little bit inside while typing that out.

But for those looking to combine serious trail capability with serious carrying capacity and serious expendable income, Specialized is betting that the idea of an electric overland bike is about to become its own adventure.
