When it’s time to celebrate an anniversary, you can rely on Dodge to drop a new color. The anniversary in question is for the Dodge Charger, which debuted to the world 60 years ago as a 1966 model. To celebrate, Dodge is going plum crazy with a new color, but this isn’t the classic Plum Crazy shade of purple you know and love. This one is, dare we say, a bit more psychedelic.

Purple Haze joins Bludicrous, Green Machine, Redeye, Sub-Zero, White Knuckle, and Diamond Black on the Dodge color lineup. The brand is keeping the muscle car’s glorious color history alive by calling back to the peak era that included names like Go Mango, Sublime, and Top Banana. More recently, purple shades have included In‑Violet and Hellraisin, showing Dodge has not lost its knack for bold color names.
Curiously, we recently wrote about data from 2025 showing the vast majority of cars sold in the US were either white, black, gray, or silver. Interestingly, the data showed purple as accounting for exactly zero percent of the market. As Stellantis points out, color choice is nearly three times more important than the industry average when it comes to the full-size car segment.

Purple Haze (the paint color, not the classic Hendrix tune) is created with a high-gloss clearcoat and designed to shift when bright sunlight is all in your eyes, but become a rich, deep purple in the shade. It can then be paired with other options, including Fratzog dual stripes, 10 different Mopar stripe and graphics options, a Satin Black painted hood, or a Satin Black hood patch for Sixpack models.

The idea of bold colors with marketable names came along in the late 1960s to replace two-tone paint jobs with lots of chrome trim. Ford had its Grabber colors (including the glorious Grabber Green), while GM went for names like Hugger Orange and Daytona Yellow. Dodge absolutely crushed it with the color names when it launched its high-impact hues.

Dodge pushed the limits with colors as the muscle car era peaked. For example, Panther Pink arrived in 1970 to some disdain but has proven to be a fan favorite. Dodge’s finest moment when it comes to exterior paint color names, however, must be Sassy Grass Green from 1971.
As for Purple Haze, it debuts in public soon, but buyers can order it on a new Charger right now. The special color is a $795 option, and though it’s only available for the 2027 model year, Dodge makes no mention of any specific production numbers.
