BYD (HKEX: 1211) has launched the Seal 08, the flagship sedan of its Ocean lineup and the first model from the new energy vehicle (NEV) giant to come standard with flash charging across both plug-in hybrid and all-electric versions.
The model officially went on sale on Thursday, offering six variants with a starting price of 196,900 yuan ($29,030).
The mid to large-size sedan made its global debut in March this year and is one of BYD’s key moves to expand into the premium market in 2026.
Specifically, the plug-in hybrid version is available in three variants. The 400 km Premium trim is priced at 196,900 yuan, the 400 km Flagship trim at 206,900 yuan, and the 350 km all-wheel-drive Flagship trim at 229,900 yuan.
The all-electric version also comes in three variants. The 775 km Premium trim is priced at 196,900 yuan, the 905 km Flagship trim at 216,900 yuan, and the 785 km all-wheel-drive Flagship trim at 239,900 yuan.
BYD is offering 12 months of free flash charging for the new model. For one year from the date of delivery, the company will also provide full coverage for safety and losses in city navigation-assisted driving and smart parking scenarios.
The Seal 08 measures 5,150/1,999/1,505 mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. It adopts BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language with a fastback silhouette.
All variants are equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery. The all-electric version is built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform, offering a CLTC range of up to 905 km and adding 400 km of range with just 5 minutes of charging.
The plug-in hybrid version is powered by a 1.5T engine dedicated to plug-in hybrids, delivering a CLTC electric-only range of up to 400 km and a combined range of 1,660 km.
In terms of performance, the all-electric all-wheel-drive variant delivers a combined motor output of 510 kW (634 hp), accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. The plug-in hybrid all-wheel-drive variant takes 3.8 seconds.
All variants come standard with the LiDAR version of BYD’s God’s Eye B smart driving assistance system, supporting city navigation on autopilot (CNOA), highway navigation on autopilot (HNOA), and automatic emergency braking (AEB).
The Seal 08 also features a rear-wheel steering system as standard, delivering a minimum turning radius of 4.95 meters, the smallest in its class.
Higher trims are equipped with the DiSus-A closed dual-chamber air suspension, which supports road preview functionality.
Inside the cabin, the new model offers dual zero-gravity seats in the front row, with ventilation, heating, and massage functions available for all seats.
The launch of the Seal 08 comes as BYD’s sales are gradually recovering. The company’s earlier transition from the first-generation Blade Battery to the flash charging-capable second-generation product had extended delivery times for several key models.
BYD sold 403,472 NEVs wholesale in June, up 5.46% year-on-year, marking its second consecutive month of year-on-year growth.
Overseas sales hit a record high of 175,349 units, surging 94.73% year-on-year.
However, its domestic market remains under pressure, with June sales in China down 22.02% year-on-year.
In the first half of this year, BYD’s cumulative NEV sales stood at 1,808,511 units, down 15.72% year-on-year.
The Ocean lineup is one of the key drivers of BYD brand’s sales growth, with sales exceeding 2.22 million units in 2025, up 14.05% year-on-year. In comparison, its Dynasty lineup sold about 1.88 million units over the same period, down 10.14%.
As the previous mainstay sedan of the Ocean lineup, the Seal family recorded cumulative sales of 170,142 units in the first half of this year, down 16.02% year-on-year. The launch of the Seal 08 is expected to boost the lineup’s performance.
