- The plug-in hybrid Denza N8 hit the market in August 2023 and was discontinued less than a year later.
- The all-electric Denza N8 will feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, with an official launch expected within the year.
Denza, the premium brand under BYD (HKEX: 1211), has filed for a new N8 SUV (sport utility vehicle), bringing the N8 nameplate back in an all-electric form. The previous plug-in hybrid N8 was discontinued less than a year after its launch amid sluggish sales, a rare occurrence.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest batch of new vehicle regulatory filings on July 10, which included 3 all-electric Denza N8 variants.
The all-electric N8 measures 5,150 millimeters in length, 1,999 millimeters in width and 1,820 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 millimeters, according to the filing.
Compared with the N8L flash charging six-seat plug-in hybrid SUV that Denza launched last month, the dimensions are identical except for the length, which is 50 millimeters shorter. The exterior design of the all-electric N8 also largely carries over the styling of the N8L.
The model is a five-seat SUV with a top speed of 240 kilometers per hour.
The all-electric N8 comes in a rear single-motor version and a tri-motor all-wheel-drive version.
The single-motor version has two power specifications, with peak power of 320 kilowatts and 370 kilowatts, respectively.
The tri-motor version is built on Denza’s e3 technology platform, with a one-front, two-rear layout. That version has a front motor with peak power of 270 kilowatts and left and right rear motors each with peak power of 310 kilowatts, for a combined system output of up to 890 kilowatts (1,194 hp).
Denza released an official poster of the all-electric N8 on Weibo on Friday, calling it a “large five-seat all-electric luxury SUV” and confirming that the vehicle will feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology.

The flash charging technology can achieve a “5-minute quick charge and 9-minute full charge,” and even in extreme cold of minus 30 degrees Celsius, the charging time increases by only 3 minutes, Denza said.
The filing of the all-electric N8 marks Denza’s attempt to revive this underperforming model line.
The original N8 was a plug-in hybrid SUV that was launched in August 2023 with a starting price of 319,800 yuan ($47,190).
Apart from surpassing 1,000 units in September 2023, the vehicle sold fewer than 500 units per month in all other months, and it was discontinued less than a year after its launch.
In October 2025, Denza launched the substantially redesigned N8L as a continuation of the N8 name. On June 23 this year, the brand launched the flash charging version of the N8L, also with a starting price of 319,800 yuan.
The N8L sold 4,002 units in June, making it Denza’s sales pillar behind only the D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and the Z9 series, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
