I imagined I would be talking lag and uneven torque delivery. Not a bit of it: this engine pulls strongly from nothing, cruises smoothly, can handle a tall gearing and can punt this two-tonne machine from 0-60mph in a mere 7.6sec. I can pass people easily on the open road using kickdown. Its fuel consumption is a bugbear, but I had expected that. The usual is 24-26mpg in any use, and if you ever see 28mpg, you get the flags out. Even so, you can expect a touring range close to 500 miles, because the fuel tank is vast, at…

When it comes to building performance engines, making sure the powerplant can rev as freely and highly as possible is crucial. Due to the engine performing more revolutions in a given minute, more power is produced as a byproduct, which improves the vehicle’s performance. It’s not exactly straightforward to achieve this though, as the higher an engine revs, the more punishment it takes. It therefore needs to be stronger to ensure it doesn’t blow up every 10 seconds. It also gets tough trying to ensure the engine’s torque curve is good throughout the larger rev range, as it can be…

Among Gen X and Boomers, just 12 per cent think service has improved, compared to 29 per cent of Gen Z and 31 per cent of Millennials. Younger consumers appear more optimistic but also have higher expectations for speed and convenience. “The generational divide is striking. Young…

This concept showcased the direction the brand wanted to go in: it had a futuristic look and a dual character, being somewhat of a halfway point between a supercar and an everyday vehicle. If the Quattro Spyder had moved into the production stage, it could have made an amazing “daily supercar”:…
