When every 911 in the range has a turbocharger, what does that do to the name that signifies the fastest one of them all? Can it no longer be defined by the five letters glued to the back that tell you something wicked sits just behind them? Is it still fast? The latest Porsche 911 Turbo S answers each query posed and more. Its namesake still serves as the archetype which all brain-bending Porsche Turbo models have followed: above all else, be the fastest one of the bunch. As always, it employs forced induction to ignite combustion and the tires…
Automotive Tesla’s futuristic Cybercab is already facing a significant regulatory test just days after beginning limited commercial deployment in Austin, Texas. According to Reuters, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has ordered Tesla to answer a detailed series of questions about how the company certified the two-seat autonomous vehicle for use on public roads. Tesla has until September 30 to respond, with regulators particularly interested in how a vehicle without a conventional steering wheel, brake pedal, accelerator pedal, or mirrors was determined to comply with existing federal motor vehicle safety standards. At the heart of NHTSA’s inquiry is…
The Toronto International Film Festival is a place to go to see the future of film, but this year it also provided a glimpse at what is coming very soon in the realm of streaming. Four different streamers — Peacock, Netflix, Amazon, and AMC — all premiered early looks at upcoming horror-adjacent series that are dropping very soon. And by doing it at TIFF, they showed just how important the month of October has become in the realm of streaming.Perhaps the most high-profile is Carrie, which is coming to Prime Video. An adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel, which…

A Maserati GranTurismo. The Italian luxury carmaker reportedly plans to develop an electric GT and SUV with Huawei and JAC. Credit: Maserati The planned models include a mid-to-large-size electric SUV and a large electric GT, with Maserati leaning toward launching the GT first. The overseas production plan calls for body shells to be built in China, with interiors and calibration completed in Italy to cut costs and utilize local factories. Maserati has reportedly finalized plans for 2 new models with Huawei, as the Italian luxury carmaker seeks to tap Chinese technology and manufacturing resources to reverse a sales slump. Auto…
Specs are equipped with two cameras, which enable the hand-tracking controls. The interface is similar to the last generation: you point with your index finger to move a cursor around the display and pinch your thumb and index finger together to select. You can also access the main menu and some other controls by opening your palm and tapping on the relevant shortcuts. The hand tracking was intuitive and responsive. The only issue I experienced was when some hair fell in front of one of the cameras, which caused the cursor to jump around the display somewhat erratically, but it…
Kia’s biggest electric SUV is being marked down by more than $15,000 at some dealers. Kia dealers offer big EV9 discounts into year-end While sales of several popular electric vehicles, like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Chevy Equinox EV, are down this year after the $7,500 EV tax credit expired last September, the EV9 has actually been more popular. Through the first eight months of 2026, Kia sold nearly 10,500 EV9s in the US, up 12% from the same period last year, when the tax credit was still being offered. However, it’s still a fraction of many of its gas…
Automakers are slowly going back to what enthusiasts really want. Because performance has become so easy to achieve with electric motors, turbochargers, and automatic gearboxes, we’re seeing a return to form with manual gearboxes and driver enjoyment as a central focus. Audi’s halo supercar from the late 2000s is something of a high point for the German brand, and now, the V10-equipped R8 has fallen to prices lower than a standard Corvette. Even though it uses many Lamborghini parts, Audi’s focus was always on daily drivability and understated performance, making it even more desirable now than when it was new.…
Nowadays, if you’ve got a family and some stuff to haul around, you’re most likely going to spring for some sort of SUV or minivan. In some cases, you might even scoop yourself up a crew-cab pickup truck to handle the workload. However, if you were shopping for a family vehicle in the early to mid-1990s, you’d probably be considering something else, too. That “something else” would have been a Chevrolet Caprice Classic wagon. Its recipe was simple. Take the B-Body Caprice, slap a wagon body onto it, and keep the rear-drive, V8 powertrain intact. It took advantage of a…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. I like machines. You probably do too. There’s lots of crossover between car people, train people, and plane people, not to mention watch people, and bike people. If it whirs, purrs, or putts along, chances are we’re into it. And as we’re further isolated from the nuts and bolts of the mechanical things we interact with on a daily basis, we believe something is being lost—a connection to how things actually work. It was…
