The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. The city of Stockton, California, has had issues with street takeovers—large groups of people driving like dicks in the wee hours of night. I wouldn’t want that in my neighborhood either, and generally support cracking down on such dingbat behavior. But I have to admit, this old flat-black Bimmer’s protest-drift caught on camera around the city’s new “sideshow deterrent” barrier is pretty darn funny. As CBS Sacramento reports, North Stockton put a circle of…

The brand said no similar failures have occurred in customer use, after Dongchedi reported bracket fractures in emergency braking tests of 3 V800 MPVs. Photo: Roland J, used with permission Porsche has finally confirmed that there will be no more gas-powered Boxster/Cayman going forward, and that all-electric versions of those vehicles will have their first production year in 2028. The move shows that Porsche is finally ready to bring electric power to its sportscars… but Porsche’s CEO still says the 911 will “never” go electric. We think time will show him to be wrong on that one. Porsche held an investor presentation today, laying out its strategy through 2035. In it, it talked about the…
For most performance enthusiasts, a Ferrari is still a dream, while a Porsche has traditionally been the more attainable way into the peak performance world. We’re not talking about Porsche’s high-volume models like the Macan and Cayenne, which are pretty much ubiquitous, but its top-end stuff like the 911 and its multitude of variants. Porsche, however, has been raising prices in recent years, especially for its top-end cars. And if you thought the automaker was done now that its sales are down, you’d be wrong. Using electromagnetic induction coils in the ground to wirelessly charge battery-electric vehicles has been in the works for many years. Your CarBuzz correspondent was in France in 2017 to watch prototype EVs juicing up while rolling over a very expensive road with induction coils in the pavement, sending energy to a receiver plate on the underside of the vehicle. Qualcomm was pushing this technology it called “Halo” but gave up and sold off the project two years later. Honda, Taisei, and Taisei Rotec are jointly developing a magnetic coupling wireless power transfer road system for EVs.Honda Not to be deterred,…

Automotive Ford is tastefully modifying their vehicles in a way to add an unfound sporty appeal, and so far, things are working well. Ford has now shared the Lobo version of their compact Maverick truck with the new Ford F-150, and I like what I have here in my driveway. The new Ford F-150 Lobo embodies some of that throwback sports appeal that we found in tricked-out trucks, but not to the extreme that we’re used to, because this truck is still true to its factory form and plays down the fancy equipment to keep pricing reasonable. The…
