Geely Auto’s (HKEX: 0175) Galaxy brand has officially launched the Cruiser 700, also known as the Zhanjian 700, expanding its lineup with its first rugged off-road SUV.
The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) went on sale in China on Saturday, with an official starting price of 189,800 yuan ($28,190). That is 10,000 yuan, or about 5%, below its pre-sales starting price announced in September.
The Cruiser 700 comes in 6 variants, including 5 regular versions and a Land Ark special edition. Official prices reach 259,800 yuan for the regular versions and 379,800 yuan for the special edition.
Geely also introduced several purchase incentives. After a 6,000 yuan cash subsidy toward purchase tax and a 4,000 yuan insurance subsidy, introductory prices range from 179,800 yuan to 369,800 yuan.
Buyers eligible for an additional 10,000 yuan trade-in subsidy can get limited-time prices ranging from 169,800 yuan ($25,220) to 359,800 yuan.
The launch brings Geely Galaxy into an off-road SUV market contested by brands including BYD’s (HKEX: 1211) Fang Cheng Bao and GWM’s (HKEX: 2333) Tank.
Shortly after the launch event concluded, Geely Galaxy announced on Weibo that firm orders for the Cruiser 700 had surpassed 10,000 units within the first 12 minutes.
The Cruiser 700 made its debut on July 24 and opened for pre-sales on September 15. Geely Galaxy said at the time that orders exceeded 43,900 within 60 minutes, though those reservations do not equate to firm orders or final sales.
Built on the GTA architecture developed specifically for new energy off-road vehicles, the SUV has a 5-seat layout and measures 5,085 mm long and 1,999 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.
Its boxy body, side-hinged tailgate and externally mounted spare tire follow traditional off-road vehicle styling. Inside, it retains a physical gear selector and controls for functions including drive-mode selection.
The 2 variants with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and 2-wheel drive each feature a single electric motor, delivering a combined system output of 350 kW (469 hp) and a 0-to-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.4 seconds.
Both have a CLTC electric range of 305 km and a combined range of 1,770 km.
The 2 triple-motor 4-wheel-drive variants with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine raise combined output to 690 kW (925 hp), cutting the 0-to-100 km/h sprint to 4.2 seconds. Their CLTC electric and combined ranges are 280 km and 1,520 km, respectively.
The Dingfeng variant, equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and triple-motor 4-wheel drive, further increases combined output to 830 kW (1,113 hp). It has an official 0-to-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.95 seconds and a CLTC electric range of 270 km.
All 4 variants with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine use a 47.14-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack with cells supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750), supporting a peak charging rate of 6C.
The cabin runs the Flyme Auto 2 system. Comfort features include massage seats and an onboard refrigerator, catering to both everyday family use and outdoor trips.
The Cruiser 700 arrives as Geely Galaxy’s sales recover. The brand sold 130,479 vehicles in September, up 7.95% year-on-year and its highest monthly total this year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
