A couple of months ago, Nissan finally brought the current-generation Kicks to Japan. It didn’t just introduce the version we get in the US, it added both a hybrid powertrain and a rugged-looking Rock Creek model, and they left us feeling a little jealous. Nissan is making it up to us, though, by at least bringing us the Rock Creek, and it’s even more deserving of the name than the Japanese version.

It’s The Same, But Different
At first glance, America’s Kicks Rock Creek looks basically the same as the Japanese version. It has a gloss black grille with additional black trim down the front fascia. It has three highlighted bits of trim at the top of the grille, inspired by the original Pathfinder. That’s also where the differences start showing up. The highlighted trim is orange, rather than white. The grille gets an extra Rock Creek badge on the side. Nissan didn’t fit a faux skid plate at the base of the bumper, but it did include new, exclusive amber running lights.

Moving along the Rock Creek Kicks, you’ll also find some unique alloy wheels with orange accents, but they’re not the same as the Japanese ones. They’re fully painted, rather than having machined aluminum accents, and they have less open area. Up on the roof is a heavy-duty tubular roof rack that Nissan says can hold 165 pounds of weight.
It gets its own orange accent, and the trailing end hangs over the rear supports a bit like the racks on the old Xterra and Frontier models. Capping off the changes are the rear, which features gloss black paint on the rear hatch as well as the rear bumper to match the nose.

As for the interior, it’s very close to the Japanese-spec Rock Creek. The plastics are black, and the dash is covered in black leatherette with orange contrast stitching. The seats are also black leatherette with orange stitching, though the inserts are perforated and top stitched, and the logos are embroidered onto the seat backs.
Nissan also gave the Rock Creek Kicks just a little bit more capability than the standard models. It’s only available with all-wheel drive, and it has an off-road drive mode with hill descent control. The Japanese version can still be optioned with front-drive and did not seem to have any special off-road drive modes. Nissan still fitted all-season tires to the 17-inch wheels on the American Kicks Rock Creek, though, and it still has the same ground clearance. It might look rugged, but street tires won’t give Subaru Wilderness drivers any competition when the going gets rough. The off-road mode might help some, but don’t get too carried away.

It’s The Most Expensive Kicks
The Rock Creek trim is the only new addition to the 2027 Kicks line, with the rest of the trim levels unchanged, except for price. Before we dig too deep into pricing for the whole range, we’ll start with the Rock Creek. It has a base MSRP of $28,840, and the destination charge of $1,545 (unchanged from 2026), brings it to $30,385. It’s the new range-topper, despite actually being based on the mid-level SV trim. It also gets everything the SV gets along with ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, rear air vents, and a surround-view camera system.

Moving onto the rest of the lineup, the base S model is only $60 more than the 2026 model with an MSRP of $22,790. The SV is only $20 more than before. The biggest price differences are with the SV and SR trims, which increased between $300 and $370. You can see all the pricing in the list below.

None of these trims have different features, which is the flip side of such minimal price hikes. The Kicks is still nicely equipped as standard with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, and even rear automatic emergency braking, in addition to front. If all of this sounds compelling, you’ll be able to find all the 2027 Kicks models at your dealer extremely soon, as they go on sale by the end of the summer.
CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:
With the broad car market becoming continually more expensive, it makes sense for Nissan to further expand its affordable offerings. The Rock Creek trim is an especially easy way to add another fun offering without much cost. Even if affordability wasn’t such a big issue right now, we’re always happy to see more reasonably-priced model variants. We still would like to see Nissan bring the hybrid powertrain over from Japan, though. Since Nissan is expanding its hybrid options in America, first with the new Rogue, we could see the powertrain appearing in the near future, assuming people respond well to the Rogue hybrid.
