Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) has reached 500 battery swap stations in Guangdong, further expanding its energy replenishment network in the Chinese economic powerhouse, where cumulative swaps have exceeded 17 million.
Nio announced on Weibo on Sunday that Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Huizhou, Dongguan, Foshan and Zhuhai each opened 1 fifth-generation swap station today, bringing the provincial total to the milestone.
Guangdong accounts for about 13% of the company’s cumulative battery swaps nationwide, Nio said. Its sales in the province rose 76.3% year-on-year in the first 8 months of this year, it added.
By comparison, Nio’s total deliveries from January through August reached 262,893 vehicles, up 57.92% year-on-year.
Guangdong is one of China’s provinces with the largest economy and the largest population; according to local government data, its permanent resident population stood at 129 million in 2025.
Nio views its expanding charging and battery swap network as an important driver of sales growth, saying it offers users a differentiated energy replenishment experience.
The focus of network development in Guangdong has shifted from achieving county-level coverage to increasing station density. Nio said both its charging and swap networks covered all 122 county-level administrative areas in the province in 2025.
Nio Power, the company’s energy arm, announced full county-level swap coverage in Guangdong in April 2025, when it had 428 swap stations in the province, CnEVPost previously reported.
That means Nio has added 72 swap stations in Guangdong since then. County-level coverage is part of its Power Up Counties initiative, which aims to extend its energy replenishment network to more county-level markets.
Nio has deployed 101 swap stations along Guangdong’s highways, completing more than 3 million swaps. The network covers major routes including the Shenyang-Haikou Expressway, the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway and the Pearl River Delta Ring Expressway.
As of October 11, Nio had 9,584 charging and swap stations in China, including 4,176 swap stations, of which 1,073 were along highways.
The company said its nationwide highway swap network covered 9 north-south routes, 11 east-west routes and 16 major urban clusters, connecting more than 550 cities.
The milestone comes just 6 months after the 100 million mark was reached on February 6, showing accelerating usage.
