Li Auto’s (NASDAQ: LI; HKEX: 2015) all-new pure-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), the Li i9, has appeared in the latest new-vehicle filings in China, signaling that the model is a step closer to its official launch.
The Li i9 appears in the filing in 2 variants, both dual-motor versions, according to the latest batch of new-vehicle regulatory listings released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Friday.
The model will officially go on sale in September and is the newest member of the company’s 9-series flagship SUV family, Li Auto founder, chairman and CEO Li Xiang said in a Weibo post published on July 9.
The Li i9 has a body length of 5,225 mm, a width of 1,970 mm, a height of 1,752 mm and a wheelbase of 3,168 mm.
It has a seating capacity of 6, continuing Li Auto’s product positioning in the large family SUV market.
The Li i9’s dimensions exceed those of Li Auto’s current pure-electric SUV flagship on sale, the Li i8, which has a body length of 5,085 mm and a wheelbase of 3,050 mm.
The electric SUV is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with a maximum front-motor power of 150 kW and a maximum rear-motor power of 250 kW, for combined system power of 400 kW. The vehicle has a top speed of 200 km/h.
The Li i9 uses a ternary lithium-ion battery, with cells supplied by Sunwoda (SZSE: 300207) and CATL (HKEX: 3750).
The model has a curb weight of 2,745 kg or 2,780 kg, depending on the variant.
In terms of configuration, the Li i9 can be optionally equipped with different styles of wheel rims, rear lettering, as well as side LiDAR and rear LiDAR, suggesting that different variants may offer differentiated intelligent-driving hardware configurations.
The Li i9 will be produced at Li Auto’s facilities in Beijing’s Shunyi district and in Changzhou, Jiangsu province.
The Li i9 is the latest step in Li Auto’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) product offensive. The company has previously launched the pure-electric MPV Mega as well as the pure-electric SUVs Li i8 and Li i6, and is accelerating its shift from extended-range models toward a dual-track layout that includes pure-electric vehicles.
The launch of the Li i9 is a key component of Li Auto’s 2026 strategy. The company has set a target of 20% year-on-year growth in vehicle deliveries, meaning it is aiming to deliver about 490,000 vehicles this year.
Li Auto delivered 30,895 vehicles in June, down 14.84% year-on-year, marking the second consecutive month of year-on-year decline.
In the first half of this year, the company delivered 193,472 vehicles, down 5.13% from 203,938 vehicles in the same period last year.
Li i6 delivered 21,453 units in June, accounting for a 69.44% share of Li Auto’s total deliveries.
