    • Leapmotor’s first MPV, the D99, goes on sale starting at 249,800 yuan ($36,790).
    • The model offers extended-range and battery electric powertrains, with the BEV version delivering up to 700 km of CLTC range.

Leapmotor (HKEX: 9863) on Thursday launched the D99, its first MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), as the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker broadens its lineup.

The D99 MPV comes in six versions, priced between 249,800 yuan ($36,790) and 319,800 yuan.

The Stellantis NV (NYSE: STLA)-backed automaker had originally planned to open pre-sales of the D99 today, but ultimately chose to launch it directly. The MPV will begin deliveries on July 20.

The new model is a mid- to large-size MPV with a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout, targeting family users who value comfort and a business-class feel.

The D99 is offered in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions, with the EREV starting at 249,800 yuan and the BEV starting at 259,800 yuan.

The EREV version features an 800-volt high-voltage platform and an 80.3-kWh large battery pack. Its dual motors deliver a combined output of 300 kW, with a CLTC combined range of 1,160 kilometers.

The BEV version uses a full-stack 1,000-volt high-voltage system and debuts a 115-kWh super hybrid cell from CATL (HKEX: 3750), offering a CLTC range of up to 700 kilometers.

Both powertrain versions support fast charging from 30% to 80% in about 15 minutes. The BEV version can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5 seconds.

The D99 measures 5,280 mm long, 1,995 mm wide and 1,880 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.

The MPV introduces an industry-first integrated central domain controller for the cockpit and smart driving, equipped with dual Qualcomm 8797 chips for combined computing power of 1,280 TOPS, and carries a VLA (Vision-Language-Action) large model assisted driving system.

The cockpit features a five-screen three-dimensional smart interaction system, including a 50-inch AR-HUD head-up display and a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen. The system has a built-in AI family butler that supports six-zone voice interaction.

Seating is one of the D99’s key selling points. The second row features zero-gravity aviation seats that support 180-degree rotation and a 90-degree viewing mode. The third-row seats can fold flat to form an independent bed.

The new model offers multiple space modes, with the second and third rows linking up to create a long bed space of nearly 2.5 meters. There are 43 storage spaces throughout the vehicle, with a trunk capacity of 706 liters.

The MPV is equipped with dual-chamber closed air suspension and a road surface active preview function.

The D99’s launch continues Leapmotor’s aggressive product expansion strategy. The company has set an ambitious goal of delivering 1 million vehicles for the full year of 2026.

Leapmotor has maintained strong growth momentum recently, delivering a record 81,569 vehicles in May.

As of June 18, the company’s cumulative global deliveries had surpassed 1.5 million units, taking just eight months to go from 1 million to 1.5 million.

Products from the second brand are expected to debut as early as the end of this year, a Leapmotor executive said.
