Monterey Car Week is rolling around again and among the prestigious car companies preparing to unveil their latest creations is Gordon Murray Automotive.

The covers are set to be torn off the new supercar from the Gordon Murray Special Vehicles division on Friday 14 August, with the legendary automotive designer who founded the company promising “something very special”.

At the same event last year, the division unveiled its Le Mans GTR and S1 LM – two magnificent tributes to the McLaren F1 GTR that was conceived by Murray and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans back in 1995.

However, this mysterious new supercar may be an even closer homage to the iconic McLaren F1, given the teaser image Murray’s company has released. This appears to show a more tame, road-focused version of the S1 LM.

It doesn’t have a massive, rather intimidating rear wing like the S1 LM, but the new supercar does appear to have the same kind of smooth, almost elegant surfacing, pronounced rear haunches and roof-mounted air intake, plus a NACA duct on the nose and more on the doors.

We’re expecting this new car to be even more of a McLaren F1 hypercar lookalike than the GMA T.50 and S1 LM that Murray has already created, but we’ll have to wait and see how close the resemblance is.

The newcomer is sure to feature the Cosworth-built 12,100rpm V12 from the S1 LM. Just five examples of that car are going to be produced, with one selling at auction for $20.6 million (£15.2m), breaking the record for the most expensive new car ever to go under the hammer.
