When the Grand Wagoneer came back to the market in 2022, Jeep made it clear to the automotive world what it was after. There was the nostalgia appeal, but what they were really going for was a three-row luxury SUV that could go one on one with other large luxury SUVs in its segment. It had the trimmings and trappings to back it up too. With real walnut trim, screens galore, and the largest cabin out there. There was only one problem: the price. People weren’t going to pay the Cadillac price for a Jeep badge.

Jeep more or less admitted to the fact that the original formula wasn’t adding up. The Grand Wagoneer has been refreshed for the 2026 model year with more of a luxurious appeal to it. Surprisingly, there’s been a price cut of $20,000 to the base model, and the trim layout has also seen a refresh. With this new look and restructuring, it’s finally set to contend with everything else in the segment and should have another chance when cross-shopping for large luxury SUVs.

The Grand Wagoneer Always Looked The Part, But The Price Didn’t

The Grand Wagoneer, from the get-go, has offered things that even German competitors like Mercedes-Benz and BMW couldn’t offer. It has the physical proportions of a land yacht, equivalent in size to a Cadillac Escalade, and a plush enough cabin to match an Escalade. Grand Wagoneers have always had difficulty with positioning in this segment, however, as the Wagoneer carried as luxurious a reputation as its pricing suggested.

A Genuine Luxury SUV Trapped By a Window Sticker

As you’ll come to find out, there really isn’t anything made up about the Grand Wagoneer’s luxury offerings. Some of the features available are a multi-speaker McIntosh sound system, open-pore wood grain, massaging front seats, and second- and third-row legroom that leaves any three-row SUV jealous. Unfortunately, for the Grand Wagoneer, the base price starts around $80,000 and with it fully loaded, you’re pushing way past $110,000. This is Lincoln Navigator territory without the badge, but unlike with the Lincoln, buyers were unwilling to pay that much for the Jeep badge.

Why Buyers Kept Walking Across The Street To Cadillac or Lincoln

If you’re spending up to or over six figures, then brand recognition and resale value make up for a lot. The Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator have both, which is why they are so popular. Jeep confusingly made the Grand Wagoneer a standalone sub-brand without a Jeep badge. People knew what the “Wagoneer” was, but the fact that it was tied to the lesser model as well as a classic car with wood paneling that no longer existed just didn’t make any sense. Not to mention, at the time, this was an unproven flagship that nobody recognized and didn’t have enough “ooh” and “ahh” factor to sell.

The 2026 Redesign Is a Full Reset, Not Just a Facelift

The 2026 model might look like just a facelift, but it’s actually an entire rebranding. Jeep had to make a strategic next move or this was going to be gone sooner than it had come back onto the market. No longer was this branded as a sub-brand experiment; instead, it fell back under the official Jeep logo. The standard Wagoneer has also been scrapped entirely, leaving it all up to the Grand Wagoneer. This also fits nicely with the nameplate of the Grand Wagoneer S, the EV midsize version.

New Face, Jeep Badges, And The End Of an Experiment

Whereas the initial version looked like a fancy school bus, the newest facelift really puts the “grand” in Grand Wagoneer. The redesigned front fascia now features an illuminated seven-slot grille with LED daytime running lights and headlamps. The grille also features LED lights. The front bumper draws inspiration from the electric Wagoneer S with its trapezoid styling. There’s also no more chrome work, and instead it has a noticeably brighter face. Most notably, it also now sports the Jeep badge.

A Simplified Trim Ladder That’s Finally Easy to Shop

No longer are the Series I, II, and III trim levels. They have been replaced by easy, recognizably Jeep-style trim names. The base model is plainly the Grand Wagoneer, then there is the Limited and Summit. You can get any of these trims in either the standard or L long-wheelbase configuration. Additional packaging such as Altitude, Upland, Obsidian, and Reserve are also available. Think of this as Jeep’s GMC Yukon. Most Jeeps wouldn’t be considered luxury until you get to the top of the line, but like the Yukon Denali, the new Grand Wagoneer is luxurious no matter which trim you choose.

A $20,000 Price Drop Rewriting The Value

In an unbelievable turn of events, the 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer now starts at $64,740, and that includes destination. This is a steep drop of more than $20,000 from the base model 2025 Grand Wagoneer. There’s also completely different powertrains to choose from. You still get the standard Hurricane inline six-cylinder that puts out 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque.

Additionally, four-wheel-drive is no longer standard and is optional like the regular Wagoneer was. Finally, there’s also an all-new range extended electric powertrain or REEV. There is a Pentastar V6 motor generator that occupies the engine bay and is not tied to any axle. Instead, there is a 92 kWh battery pack and a charging port to keep it charged. Jeep estimates that output is 647 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque, making it one of the most powerful Grand Wagoneers to date.

The New Base Undercuts Every Luxury Three-Row Rival

Let’s look at the different pricing for the Grand Wagoneer next to other full-size luxury SUVs in its class, and you’ll really see the stark differences:

    • Jeep Grand Wagoneer: $64,740 at launch, including destination
    • GMC Yukon Denali: mid-$70,000 range
    • Mercedes-Benz GLS: $91,600
    • BMW X7: roughly $91,000
    • Cadillac Escalade — $93,995, after a 2026 increase
    • Lincoln Navigator: $94,890
    • Lexus LX: $108,550

It’s pretty plain to see that there is a massive difference now in starting MSRP between the juggernauts and the newcomer. This new price point has helped sales too, because you can see them all over the road now.

    What You Still Get

The cheaper Grand Wagoneer isn’t something that you should simply look over either. You still benefit from Capri leather seats with a nine-speaker Alpine sound system. Speaking of the seats, they are ventilated and heated, and also offer power adjustability. There’s also a tri-zone automatic climate control system, and it can tow 10,000 pounds, which is best in its class. Climb up to the Summit trim, and you benefit from the Quadra-Lift air suspension, maple leather seating, and a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system.

The Fine Print Before You Call It A Bargain

While that shiny new MSRP might be enticing, you should still know that this is a 6,000-pound body-on-frame luxury SUV that demands running costs befitting its name. We’re not going to declare this the segment’s value king, quite yet. Not until we look at where the compromises live.

Fuel Economy, Depreciation and Luxurious Upper Trims

Not touching the REEV model, the hurricane in-line six-cylinder engine still gets pretty abysmal EPA ratings. This land yacht gets 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. The warranty is also nothing to be excited about at three years and 36,000 miles (whichever number comes first). Because this is still technically a newer vehicle, we don’t necessarily know what the depreciation is. Not to mention a loaded Summit Reserve L is going to put you way past the $100,000 mark.

Not Cheap, But Smarter Than A Luxury Buy

Not to be misconstrued, we’re not calling a $64,740 SUV a bargain. However, the Grand Wagoneer is now not expecting you to pay exorbitant pricing for similar quality to the Cadillac Escalade. Also, if you like the GMC Yukon, especially the Denali, this one is for you. The extended-range version that we mentioned previously will be arriving later this year. So, if you’re looking for something more fuel-efficient, you’ll have to wait a little longer.
