    • BYD exported 183,746 NEVs in August, with its share rising 3.2 percentage points from July.
    • Tesla China’s exports fell 45.5% sequentially, with its share dropping to 7.0% from July’s 12.3%.

    BYD (HKEX: 1211) continued to lead China’s passenger new energy vehicle (NEV) exports in August, while Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) rose to second and Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) China slipped to fourth.

    BYD exported 183,746 passenger NEVs in August, up 130.8% year-on-year and 5.8% month-on-month. Its share rose to 35.4% from July’s 32.2%, according to rankings released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Wednesday.

    Geely exported 69,910 NEVs in August, up 440.2% year-on-year and 15.4% month-on-month. It held a 13.5% share, climbing to second from fourth in July.

    Chery (HKEX: 9973) ranked third with 68,431 vehicles, up 221.2% year-on-year but down 17.3% month-on-month, for a 13.2% share.

    Tesla China exported 36,119 vehicles in August, up 38.7% year-on-year but down 45.5% month-on-month. The US electric vehicle (EV) maker’s share fell to 7.0% from July’s 12.3%, as it dropped 1 place in the rankings.

    Changan Automobile (SZSE: 000625) ranked fifth with 28,323 vehicles, up 8.1% month-on-month, for a 5.5% share.

    SAIC Passenger Vehicle ranked sixth with 24,991 vehicles, up 0.9% month-on-month, for a 4.8% share.

    Leapmotor (HKEX: 9863) held seventh place with 18,255 vehicles, up 209.2% year-on-year and 3.9% month-on-month, for a 3.5% share.

    SAIC-GM-Wuling ranked eighth with 17,376 vehicles, up 22.7% month-on-month, for a 3.4% share.

    Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) rose to ninth with 8,125 vehicles, despite a 16.2% month-on-month decline in exports. GAC Aion ranked tenth with 7,575 vehicles. Their shares were 1.6% and 1.5%, respectively.

    From January through August, BYD exported 1,126,797 NEVs, up 87.5% year-on-year, ranking first with a 33.9% share.

    Chery held second place with 441,500 vehicles, up 177.5% year-on-year, for a 13.3% share.

    Geely ranked third with 405,911 vehicles, up 565.8% year-on-year, for a 12.2% share.

    Tesla China exported 331,443 vehicles over the same period, up 114.7% year-on-year, ranking fourth with a 10.0% share.

    SAIC Passenger Vehicle ranked fifth with 174,545 vehicles and a 5.2% share. Leapmotor ranked sixth with 132,118 vehicles, up 327.8% year-on-year, for a 4.0% share.

    Changan, SAIC-GM-Wuling, Dongfeng and GAC Aion ranked seventh through tenth, respectively.

    In the overall passenger vehicle export market, which includes conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, Chery held first place in August with 193,069 vehicles. That was up 52.3% year-on-year but down 3.0% month-on-month, giving it a 21.8% share.

    BYD ranked second with 183,746 vehicles and a 20.7% share, narrowing its gap with Chery to 1.1 percentage points from July’s 2.8 percentage points.

    Geely ranked third with 109,375 vehicles, up 203.2% year-on-year and 3.0% month-on-month, for a 12.3% share.

    SAIC Passenger Vehicle ranked fourth with 69,208 vehicles and a 7.8% share. GWM (HKEX: 2333) rose to fifth with 55,999 vehicles and a 6.3% share.

    Changan ranked sixth with 48,890 vehicles, while Tesla China slipped to seventh with 36,119 vehicles. Their shares were 5.5% and 4.1%, respectively.

    SAIC-GM-Wuling, Leapmotor and Yueda Kia ranked eighth through tenth, with shares of 3.8%, 2.1% and 1.7%, respectively.

    From January through August, Chery held first place in overall passenger vehicle exports with 1,323,718 vehicles, up 67.6% year-on-year, for a 21.7% share.

    BYD ranked second with 1,126,797 vehicles and an 18.5% share, while Geely ranked third with 688,051 vehicles and an 11.3% share.

    SAIC Passenger Vehicle and GWM ranked fourth and fifth, with shares of 9.0% and 6.0%, respectively.

    Tesla China held sixth place with a 5.4% share, while Leapmotor ranked ninth with 132,118 vehicles and a 2.2% share.

    Tesla returned to sixth place with a 5.0% share, while Leapmotor retained third place and posted the fastest year-on-year growth among the top 10.
