BYD is launching a new Denza Z9 GT model on September 9. The new tri-motor variant is expected to start at around $50,000, filling the gap between the current range-topping Performance and Flagship RWD models.

BYD adds new tri-motor Denza Z9 GT model

After revealing the new Z9 GT earlier this year, BYD’s luxury sub-brand, Denza, claimed it was the “world’s longest pure electric driving range electric vehicle,” delivering a CLTC range of up to 1,036 km (643 miles).

The electric GT was among BYD’s first vehicles to use its latest Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology, enabling the battery to recharge from 10% to 70% in as little as 5 minutes.

It’s available in both fully electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions with single- or tri-motor configurations.

The single-motor Denza Z9 GT variant features a rear-mounted electric motor with 370 kW (496 hp), while the tri-motor model packs a combined 850 kW (1,140 hp) based on BYD’s e3 platform.

Measuring 5,195 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm, the Denza Z9 GT is about the size of a Porsche Panamera.

According to Li Hui, Denza’s general manager, the new Z9 GT has been China’s top-selling luxury GT for several consecutive months. However, in response to customer feedback, Li confirmed that a new all-electric Denza Z9 GT model will launch on September 9.

The new variant will be a “lighter” tri-motor EV configuration, while “exciting purchase incentives” will also be available.

While no other details were revealed, the new Denza Z9 GT is expected to fill the gap between the most expensive e3 Performance and Flagship RWD models.

The Denza Z9 GT Flagship RWD starts at 299,800 yuan ($44,500) while the e3 Performance starts at 369,800 yuan ($55,000), meaning the new tri-motor variant will likely start at around 339,800 yuan, or about $50,000.

BYD also sells the Denza Z9 GT in Europe, starting at €115,000 ($134,500) in Germany. Orders initially opened in bigger markets like Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK, but BYD said it would expand to 30 countries by the end of 2026.

Whether or not BYD will launch the new lower-priced tri-motor model in Europe has yet to be confirmed.

We should learn more on September 9, when the new variant goes on sale in China. Check back on Wednesday for a full breakdown.
