The Qin Max is a “completely different new B-segment fast-charging sedan,” according to BYD. Shortly after previewing it for the first time, BYD’s new electric sedan was spotted driving in public.

The new “Max” model will join BYD’s popular Qin lineup as a bigger sibling to the Qin L, a Tesla Model 3-sized electric sedan.

Lu Tian, the general manager of BYD’s Ocean series, previewed the new Qin Max for the first time on Sunday on its Weibo page.

According to Tian, BYD “created a completely different B-segment fast-charging sedan for young people” with the Qin Max. The new model is the “super-sized ” version of the Qin family, positioned above the Qin L.

The new flagship sedan comes as anticipation for the larger Qin sedan with Flash Charging has been building on Chinese social media.

BYD has yet to reveal specifics, but vehicles equipped with its new Blade Batteries 2.0 and Flash Charging system can fully recharge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes. Going from 10% to 70% takes just 5 minutes.

Earlier this year, the Qin Max was among the new energy vehicles (NEVs) approved for sale by China’s MIIT, with a few details revealed.

The filing revealed that the Qin Max measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm.

To give you a better idea, a Tesla Model 3 is 4,720 mm long, 1,933 mm wide, and 1,442 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm.

It will be available in pure electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The Qin Max EV is equipped with an electric motor with two power outputs: 160 hp (120 kW) or 321 hp (240 kW).

According to CarNewsChina, it will be offered with 52.868 kWh and 64.315 kWh BYD Blade Batteries, delivering CLTC ranges of 330 miles (530 km) and 391 miles (630 km), respectively.

Shortly after BYD previewed it for the first time, images of the interior surfaced online, and the Qin Max was captured driving with minimal disguise.

The images from ThinkerCar show a setup similar to the Qin L, with a large center infotainment screen and a smaller instrument cluster display.

Like most of BYD’s new vehicles, the Qin Max is expected to feature BYD’s God’s Eye B intelligent driving and ADAS system.

The other images shown above (via ThinkerCar) reveal the Qin Max driving in public for the first time. It retains the Qin family design with a closed-off grille, slim LED headlights, and a full-length LED lightbar. From the side, it has a similar shape to the Tesla Model 3.

After launching the Qin L EV last year, starting at just 119,800 yuan ($17,500), BYD said it sold over 10,000 units in its first week.

The slightly larger Max model with Flash Charging is already generating hype on social media in China. We should learn more soon. Check back for more details.
