When it comes to needing an ultra-high-performance engine off the shelf, one of the most effective ways of securing one is by knocking on the door of Mercedes-Benz. Some of the most rabid supercars in automotive history have featured powerplants sourced from the legendary German automaker, with one of the best examples being Pagani’s range of Huayra and Zonda models, which used Merc V12 units in various states of tune. More recently, Aston Martin joined the bandwagon. Thanks to some upgrades, the engine from the Valhalla still outdoes its newer sibling. Mercedes’ New Performance Coupe Gets A Revised M177 V8…
Capcom’s Pragmata might be all about the horrors of AI, but in practice the studio doesn’t seem so down on the tech. During the Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026 programmer Satoshi Ishida gave a presentation with the mouthful of a title: “The Outlook and Future of the REX Project, Further Evolving the RE Engine for the Next Generation.” During the talk he laid out the challenges facing studios producing games at the scale of Resident Evil, which can make even simple tasks extremely time consuming. The solution Ishida said is “successfully integrating AI technology into development workflows.”Capcom has said previously…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. Pixar’s 2006 animated film Cars deserves a place in the canon of great car movies, and not just because it’s literally a movie about talking cars. It’s also an ode to NASCAR history, featuring none other than seven-time champion Richard Petty voicing a character based on his iconic blue Plymouth Superbird, and appropriately named “The King.” One animator is taking that theme and running with it. Ariya Alexander Berenji, a self-described aspiring filmmaker with…
They can also transmit power, video and audio. Ethernet cables are probably one of the least exciting tech accessories you own. But you may not realize they can do more than just connect devices to your router. They can also carry video, audio and power. However, just because they can do that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the best option. Long-distance video Amazon / OREI HDMI usually connects two devices that are relatively close together, but some people’s setups need video to travel over longer distances. This is one area where the same cables you use for…
In a record-setting commercial truck deal, international shipping giant FedEx has placed an order for 2,000 all-electric box trucks from American startup Harbinger in a deal that’s reportedly worth more than $300 million – but the ROI could be much higher. FedEx is making serious moves to fully electrify its operating fleet by 2040, and this latest Harbinger deal is believed to be one of the largest binding orders for electric medium or heavy-duty trucks in history. It’s certainly Harbinger’s largest order, at least! “FedEx is demonstrating that the business case for incorporating electric vehicles into real-world fleet operations at scale…
Buying a new car is one of those purchases that always comes with grand intentions — this one, you tell yourself, you’ll keep forever. Reality, of course, has other plans. Most drivers eventually move on, chasing the next thing. Yet according to iSeeCars, the average American holds onto their vehicle for roughly 8.4 years, a figure that has been climbing steadily. A select group of owners, however, blows that number out of the water — and the car they’re most loyal to isn’t the one you’d guess. Toyotas are notoriously popular in the US, celebrated for their reliability. Icons like…
Beijing wants large-scale production, but the world’s biggest EV battery maker warns that making the technology affordable is another matter.
It’s that time of the year when automakers release their third-quarter sales reports, and we get a clear look at the numbers. According to those, Nissan has been doing pretty well overall during the last three months, with retail sales climbing 7.8% year-over-year. Much of that growth was driven by its trucks and SUVs, but the Z has actually seen a notable drop compared to last year. Nissan sold 834 copies during the third quarter of 2026, down from 1,033 in 2025. That’s a 19.3% drop year-over-year, and yet this low-volume sports car has single-handedly managed to outsell two Stellantis…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. The Fast and Furious movie saga may be nearing the finish line, but the franchise will continue on the small screen for diehard fans who don’t think 12 movies (including the spinoff Hobbs & Shaw) are enough. Deadline reports that a live-action television show based on the franchise has been greenlit by Peacock, after being announced by the streaming service earlier this year. It’s due to start streaming sometime in 2028, according to the…
Why am I suddenly buying up every 3D Blu-ray I can find after 3D became one of the biggest tech flops of all time? The technology’s finally ready for 3D movies to shine, more than 15 years since James Cameron’s Avatar wowed me on the big screen and went on to become the highest-grossing film worldwide. Video glasses are giving me the experience I’ve always desired.I’ve always loved 3D movies, but viewing them was awkward. Walking into a movie theater with a pair of polarized glasses, I would only get half the resolution and roughly half the brightness, since those glasses…
