Automotive When General Motors announced it would eliminate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from its latest electric vehicles, many buyers were left wondering if there would ever be a workaround. For drivers who rely on familiar smartphone interfaces for navigation, music, messaging, and apps, the decision was a controversial one. Now, a new aftermarket solution called EVPlay LT promises to bring both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto back to a growing list of GM-built EVs with a setup process that appears surprisingly simple, as we found out from Car and Driver. The EVPlay LT system is designed specifically…
BMW is one of the most interesting automotive brands because, depending on which model you buy, your ownership experience can feel like opening Pandora’s box. For example, buying a used twin-turbocharged BMW 7 Series that is a couple of years old at a heavy discount is an alluring but deeply dangerous proposition. It’s jokingly said that BMW stands for “Break My Wallet.” However, back in the day, BMW used to focus on a different set of values. At a certain point, the German luxury brand developed two inline-six engines that offered reliability levels usually reserved for Toyota Land Cruisers and…

The sale of the last seven Saab cars at its factory site in Trollhättan, Sweden, wasn’t just a run-of-the-mill auction – it was a ceremonial event that drew enthusiasts as well as bidders. Technically, the vehicles for sale were all Saab 9-3 cars, despite four being branded as NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden), the company that acquired the assets of Saab Automobile from a bankruptcy estate in 2012. Considering the long history of Saab and the level of enthusiasm it generates with people around the world, it was probably a banger of an auction, right? Yeah, not exactly. And that…
The BMW Z cars have a special place in the hearts of many fans of the German brand. With their quirky design and unique character, they have occupied a distinct place in the brand’s lineup. Spanning across decades, from the late 1980s to the present day, the Z models have showcased BMW’s creativity on both the design and performance fronts. Many people might walk right past a V12-engined Mercedes-Benz S-Class and not realize how special it is. They might just see another large black luxury sedan with a three-point star up front, without realizing the potential of the machine. Avid enthusiasts, however, know that a W222-generation S600 or a Mercedes-AMG S65 is something to savor. These vehicles represent an old-school approach to over-engineered luxury, with hand-built or ultra-low-volume bi-turbo engines, and they now come at the kind of price you might expect to pay for a new midsize SUV. The W222 S600 was the final regular S600 sedan for Americans,…
