    • Leapmotor and Zeekr set fresh records, while Xiaomi tops 40,000 deliveries to reach its highest monthly level this year.
    • Nio, Xpeng and Li Auto meet third-quarter delivery guidance, while Huawei’s HIMA posts a year-on-year decline.

    Deliveries by China’s major automakers and EV startups continued to diverge in September 2026, with Leapmotor (HKEX: 9863) and Zeekr setting records while Li Auto and Huawei’s HIMA posted year-on-year declines.

    Leapmotor delivered more than 100,000 vehicles for a third consecutive month, while Zeekr set a monthly delivery record for a sixth consecutive month.

    Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) returned to month-on-month growth, while Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) posted its highest monthly deliveries this year. Both met their third-quarter delivery guidance.

    Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) returned to a year-on-year decline after resuming growth in August, while Huawei-backed HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) posted a year-on-year drop for a fourth consecutive month.

    Xiaomi Auto, the automotive unit of Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810), delivered more than 40,000 vehicles, reaching its highest monthly level this year as deliveries of the Sky Nomad series began.

    BYD (HKEX: 1211) sold 463,561 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in September, up 16.98% from a year earlier, setting a monthly high for this year and extending its recovery from a sluggish start.

    This marked BYD’s fifth consecutive month of year-on-year growth. Sales rose 5.28% from August, marking its seventh consecutive monthly increase.

    BYD sold 1,323,065 NEVs in the third quarter, up 18.75% year-on-year and 19.41% from the second quarter. The company returned to quarterly year-on-year growth after 4 consecutive quarters of declines.

    Sales totaled 3,131,576 vehicles in the first 9 months of this year, down 3.94% year-on-year, narrowing from a 6.84% decline in the first 8 months.

    BYD posted its fifth consecutive month of year-on-year NEV sales growth and seventh consecutive month of sequential growth.

    Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) posted its highest monthly sales of the year in September as its domestic decline eased, though exports, which have underpinned its growth, fell from the previous month for the first time this year.

    The company sold 292,168 vehicles in September, up 6.97% year-on-year and 8.13% from August. This was its highest monthly total this year and the third consecutive month with year-on-year growth above 5%.

    Geely exported 106,685 vehicles in September, up 162.35% year-on-year but down 3.10% from August’s 110,094.

    Its monthly exports had previously set records for 8 consecutive months. Exports accounted for 37% of total sales in September, down from 41% in August.

    Geely’s sales in China reached 185,483 vehicles in September, the highest monthly total since January, despite falling 20.21% year-on-year. The decline narrowed for a second consecutive month, from 25.22% in August and 29.12% in July.

    Geely Auto exported 106,685 vehicles in September, up 162% year-on-year but down 3% from August, ending 8 consecutive months of record exports.

    GWM (HKEX: 2333) sold 114,944 vehicles in September, down 13.99% year-on-year despite a 1.37% increase from August. This was its steepest year-on-year decline since January 2025.

    GWM sold 920,302 vehicles from January through September, down 0.33% year-on-year. Its cumulative sales had still been up 1.98% at the end of August.

    GWM’s overseas sales reached 60,019 vehicles in September, up 19.40% year-on-year, its slowest growth this year.

    Overseas sales fell 4.00% from August’s record 62,517 vehicles and accounted for 52.22% of total sales in September. Overseas sales totaled 475,977 vehicles in the first 9 months, up 42.43% year-on-year.

    GWM sold 54,925 vehicles in China in September, down about 34% year-on-year, marking its eleventh consecutive month of declines. Domestic sales, however, rose about 8% from August.

    GWM sold 114,944 vehicles in September, down 13.99% year-on-year, bringing sales for the first 9 months into decline at 0.33%.

    Nio Inc delivered 37,408 vehicles in September, up 7.65% year-on-year and 4.39% from August, ending 2 consecutive months of month-on-month declines.

    Third-quarter deliveries totaled 109,178 vehicles, up 25.39% year-on-year and within its guidance range of 108,000 to 111,000.

    The main Nio brand delivered 21,318 vehicles in September, up 55.29% year-on-year. Onvo delivered 8,763 vehicles, down 42.52% from a year earlier, marking its second consecutive month of year-on-year declines.

    Firefly delivered a record 7,327 vehicles, up 26.87% year-on-year and 25.21% from August.

    In the first 9 months, Nio Inc delivered 300,301 vehicles, up 49.24% year-on-year.

    Deliveries by the Nio brand rose 55.29% year-on-year in September, Firefly set a monthly record and Onvo posted a second consecutive year-on-year decline.

    Xpeng delivered 41,256 vehicles in September, down 0.78% year-on-year but up 5.50% from August, reaching its highest monthly level this year while ending 3 consecutive months of year-on-year growth.

    The company delivered a record 118,390 vehicles in the third quarter, up 2.05% year-on-year and slightly above the midpoint of its guidance range of 115,000 to 121,000.

    In the first 9 months, Xpeng delivered 284,367 vehicles, down 9.20% year-on-year, narrowing the decline from 10.49% in the first 8 months.

    Mona L03 deliveries exceeded 10,000 in September, while the flagship GX SUV delivered 7,224 vehicles, surpassing 7,000 for 3 consecutive months.

    Xpeng delivered 41,256 vehicles in September, down 0.78% year-on-year while up 5.50% from August.

    Li Auto delivered 31,817 vehicles in September, down 6.29% year-on-year and 15.56% from August, failing to sustain its return to year-on-year growth in August.

    The company delivered 99,964 vehicles in the third quarter, up 7.24% year-on-year and 1.66% from the second quarter, close to the upper end of its guidance range of 95,000 to 100,000.

    In the first 9 months, Li Auto delivered 293,436 vehicles, down 1.25% year-on-year, widening the decline from 0.60% in the first 8 months.

    The updated Li L6 delivered more than 10,000 vehicles in September. The company also plans to launch the updated Li i6 in late October and begin deliveries in early November.

    Li Auto delivered 99,964 vehicles in the third quarter, up 7.24% year-on-year and 1.66% from the second quarter.

    Leapmotor delivered 105,656 vehicles globally in September, up 58.51% year-on-year and 2.45% from August, exceeding 100,000 for a third consecutive month.

    The company delivered a record 310,052 vehicles in the third quarter, up 78.34% year-on-year and 25.87% from the second quarter.

    In the first 9 months of the year, Leapmotor delivered 666,539 vehicles, up 68.52% year-on-year and already exceeding its full-year 2025 total of 596,555.

    That represents about 66.7% of its annual target of 1,000,000 vehicles. It still needs to deliver 333,461 vehicles in the final 3 months, or an average of about 111,154 a month, above September’s level.

    Leapmotor delivered 105,656 vehicles in September, bringing third-quarter deliveries to a record 310,052.

    HIMA delivered 37,490 vehicles in September, down 29.15% year-on-year and 10.95% from August, marking its fourth consecutive year-on-year decline and third consecutive month-on-month drop.

    The alliance delivered 367,229 vehicles in the first 9 months, up 5.27% year-on-year, a marked slowdown from the 11.42% growth recorded in the first 8 months.

    Cumulative deliveries across its lineup have surpassed 1,560,000 vehicles, HIMA said. September’s decline came as the updated Luxeed R7, Luxeed RX, Stelato V8 and updated Aito M8 were launched or opened for pre-sales during the month.

    HIMA’s September deliveries fell 29.15% year-on-year, with year-to-date growth slowing to 5.27%.

    Zeekr, a brand under Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175), delivered 37,216 vehicles in September, up 103.85% year-on-year and 0.64% from August.

    It marked the brand’s sixth consecutive monthly delivery record and eighth consecutive month of both year-on-year and month-on-month growth.

    In the first 9 months, Zeekr delivered 288,404 vehicles, up 100.84% year-on-year. Since deliveries began in 2021, the brand’s cumulative total has reached 931,293 vehicles.

    The flagship 9X hybrid SUV delivered 7,225 vehicles in September, helped by a production ramp-up for the 5-seat version. Zeekr 7X sales have exceeded 10,000 for 3 consecutive months.

    Zeekr’s September deliveries rose 103.85% year-on-year, extending its streak of both annual and monthly growth to 8 consecutive months.

    Xiaomi Auto said September deliveries exceeded 40,000 vehicles, reaching their highest monthly level this year, but did not disclose an exact figure or a breakdown by model.

    The company delivered 30,153 vehicles in August, according to China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data and figures compiled by CnEVPost.

    Xiaomi Auto delivered at least 286,475 vehicles in the first 9 months. Based on that disclosed minimum, it had achieved about 52.1% of its annual target of 550,000 vehicles.

    Sky Nomad helped lift Xiaomi Auto’s monthly deliveries to their highest level so far in 2026 in its first month on sale.

    SAIC-GM-Wuling delivered 132,045 vehicles in September, down 15.13% year-on-year but up 0.9% from August.

    GAC’s Hyptec and Aion business unit delivered a combined 35,494 vehicles in September, up 21.91% year-on-year, extending its run of growth to 7 consecutive months.

    Deepal delivered 30,185 vehicles in September, down 10.23% year-on-year but up 5.32% from August.

    Voyah delivered 13,025 vehicles in September. Its deliveries in the first 9 months totaled 115,481 vehicles, up 19% year-on-year.
