Chevrolet is giving its two most affordable SUVs some much-needed attention for the 2027 model year, and while the changes might not immediately jump out at you, there’s quite a bit to appreciate. The 2027 Chevy Trax and Trailblazer arrive with refreshed styling, significantly upgraded technology, expanded standard safety features, and simplified trim lineups. The Trailblazer also gains a new Z71 model that brings some genuine off-road hardware to the little SUV. These updates aren’t about reinventing two vehicles that have already found their place in the market. Instead, Chevy is making them more appealing in a highly competitive segment where buyers increasingly expect the latest technology without paying a premium.

On the outside, Chevrolet has taken a relatively conservative approach to updating both SUVs. Revised front grilles and redesigned headlights give the Trax and Trailblazer a cleaner, more contemporary appearance, with the previous vertical headlight arrangements making way for horizontal units. Around back, new taillights are connected by a black trim piece that helps create a wider visual stance. The differences are subtle enough that casual observers might mistake the new models for their predecessors, but the changes help keep both vehicles looking fresh. Chevrolet is also introducing new exterior color choices, including Lagoon and Sunrise Orange, giving buyers a little more personality to work with. It’s a sensible update that builds on the existing designs rather than changing what made these SUVs attractive in the first place.

The biggest improvements are found inside, where both the 2027 Trax and Trailblazer receive an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard equipment. That’s a substantial technology upgrade for vehicles positioned at the affordable end of Chevrolet’s lineup. The larger displays should make everyday functions easier to access while giving the cabins a more upscale appearance. Chevrolet is also bringing Google built-in functionality with Gemini voice assistance to both models, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. A new Storm Sky Gray interior color option adds another touch of refinement. Behind the scenes, updated electrical and software architecture allows Chevrolet to introduce a broader collection of standard safety features, including reverse automatic braking, rear cross-traffic braking, side bicyclist alert, front parking assistance, intersection automatic emergency braking, and additional rear-seat safety reminders. For buyers shopping on a budget, having more of these features included rather than buried in expensive option packages is a meaningful improvement.

Chevrolet is also simplifying the buying process by reducing both SUVs to three trim levels. The 2027 Trax will be offered in LT, RS, and ACTIV configurations, while the Trailblazer lineup consists of LT, RS, and the newly introduced Z71. That Z71 badge is particularly interesting because it gives the Trailblazer a more adventurous personality with standard all-wheel drive, off-road-tuned suspension, sport-terrain tires, and a front steel skid plate. It’s more than just a cosmetic appearance package, although nobody should confuse the Trailblazer Z71 with a dedicated rock-crawling machine. Another notable change is that the Trailblazer drops its previous turbocharged 1.2-liter engine in favor of making the 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder standard. Meanwhile, the Trax continues to cater to drivers who prioritize affordability and everyday practicality, retaining its front-wheel-drive-only configuration. These distinctions should help shoppers decide which Chevy better fits their needs without having to navigate an unnecessarily complicated collection of trims.

Of course, the big question is how much these improvements will cost. Chevrolet hasn’t announced official 2027 pricing, and it’s reasonable to expect some increase given the additional technology and standard equipment. For perspective, the outgoing 2026 Trax starts at approximately $23,495, while the 2026 Trailblazer starts around $25,395, including destination charges. Chevrolet maintains that the two SUVs will remain its most affordable vehicles, which is encouraging news for anyone looking to stretch their automotive budget. The refreshed Trax is scheduled to arrive in spring 2027, with the Trailblazer following in late spring. If Chevy can keep pricing competitive, these updates could make an already compelling pair of entry-level SUVs even harder to overlook. Bigger screens, more standard safety technology, and a genuinely more capable Trailblazer Z71 are exactly the kinds of improvements that matter to real-world buyers, especially when affordability remains one of the biggest selling points.
