Denza, the premium brand of BYD (HKEX: 1211), has officially launched the Z9S all-electric sedan, joining the competition in China’s mid-to-high-end electric sedan market with extra-long range.
Denza launched the Z9S in 3 variants on Wednesday, with prices starting at 255,800 yuan ($37,910) and a maximum CLTC range of 1,100 km.
The flash charging premium variant is priced at 255,800 yuan, the flash charging flagship variant at 275,800 yuan, and the e3 flash charging performance variant at 325,800 yuan.
The Z9S opened for pre-sales on August 3, when the 3 variants were priced at 319,800 yuan, 349,800 yuan, and 389,800 yuan, respectively.
The official prices are 64,000 yuan, 74,000 yuan, and 64,000 yuan lower than the pre-sales prices, respectively, giving the new model more pricing room to compete with models including the Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810) SU7 and Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) P7.
The 2 lower-priced variants are both powered by a 370 kW (496 hp) rear-mounted single motor, with CLTC ranges of 920 km and 1,100 km, respectively.
The performance variant, equipped with the e3 technology, adopts a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system with a combined output of 890 kW, a CLTC range of 780 km, and 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in as fast as 2.68 seconds.
Denza said the flagship variant’s 1,100 km range sets a new global record for the longest range among mass-produced all-electric vehicles, surpassing the 1,036 km announced for the revamped Z9GT launched in March this year.
All Z9S variants feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes.
According to the charging data released, the vehicle can charge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes in an environment of minus 30 degrees Celsius.
The new model is 5,090 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,490 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,025 mm, featuring a fastback design and frameless doors.
All Z9S variants come standard with rear-wheel steering and the DiSus-A intelligent air body control system, with the performance variant offering a minimum turning radius of 4.75 meters.
The new model is equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye 5.0 system, which introduces reinforcement learning on top of an end-to-end large model, supporting urban and highway navigation assistance as well as parking assistance.
The cockpit features a 17.3-inch central control screen and introduces the Diva intelligent companion and the AI super agent “Didixia,” supporting voice interaction and cross-scenario service calls.
Denza said the Z9S is also the first in the world to offer an Apple CarPlay small-window mode, and supports connectivity with smartphones from multiple mainstream brands.
The Z9S is the third model in the Denza Z9 series, following the Z9 and Z9GT, expanding the brand’s all-electric sedan lineup.
Denza sold 16,001 vehicles in August, up 33.42% year-on-year, but down 16.64% from July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
