RGNT’s 85 MPH retro electric motorcycle just got a scrambler makeover

Swedish electric motorcycle maker RGNT has expanded its lineup with a new scrambler version of its retro-inspired electric motorcycle, adding a bit more off-road attitude without messing too much with the formula underneath.

The new RGNT Street Scrambler joins the existing Street Classic, a model we’ve been covering since it was first unveiled over six years ago. The two share essentially the same electric drivetrain and battery options, but the new Scrambler model gets several changes aimed at riders who occasionally want to leave the pavement behind.

The most obvious differences are the Scrambler’s 18-inch front wheel, up from the Classic’s 17-incher, along with chunkier 18 x 2.5-inch on/off-road rubber up front. The rear remains a fat 17 x 3-inch tire. The Scrambler also gets a raised and wider handlebar, while the ride height increases by 20mm. Ground clearance rises from 230mm to 260mm, and seat height increases from 810mm to 830mm.

Those aren’t exactly Dakar Rally modifications, but they should make the bike considerably happier on gravel roads and light trails while maintaining the classic motorcycle proportions that make RGNT’s bikes stand out.

Underneath, things are familiar. Both versions use RGNT’s 46 kW direct-drive rear hub motor producing a claimed 540 Nm of peak torque. Top speed is 135 km/h (84 mph), while 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes 3.9 seconds.

The standard 8.3 kWh battery is rated for 139 km (86 miles) of range, while an optional 10.1 kWh long-range pack stretches that figure to 170 km (106 miles). Despite its fairly accessible appearance, the battery is fixed rather than removable.

Charging is handled through a Type 2 connector common across Europe, with the standard 1.8 kW onboard charger providing a full charge in 4 hours and 35 minutes.

An optional 6 kW charger cuts that to 1 hour and 25 minutes, or around 50 minutes for a 20-80% charge. The company refers to it as nearly a “full tank” in the time it takes for a coffee stop, but that’s some mighty slow sipping. As far as motorcycle recharges go though, under an hour for most of a charge is still fairly impressive, especially for AC charging. This won’t be a touring bike any time soon, but for commuters and occasional trail riders, the recharge time is decently quick with that faster charger upgrade.

An on-board 6 kW charger offers a mostly-filled battery in under an hour – for an extra €1,895

Other modern touches hide behind the decidedly old-school styling, including ABS, traction control, regenerative braking, keyless starting, full LED lighting, and a 3-inch circular display supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

RGNT has been pursuing this combination of vintage motorcycle design and modern electric drivetrain technology for several years now. Founded in Sweden, the company builds its motorcycles in Gothenburg, leaning heavily into a handcrafted, small-production approach rather than trying to compete with mass-market motorcycle manufacturers on volume. Earlier this year, the company announced that it had over 600 motorcycles on European streets.

That handcrafted approach isn’t cheap, but the bikes also aren’t offensively expensive, either. The Street Classic starts at €8,995, while the new Street Scrambler starts at €9,495. Buyers can reserve a build with a €100 deposit, with options including the larger battery, faster charger, heated grips, luggage rack, windscreen, and side bag system.

For an extra €500 over the Classic, the Scrambler seems like an interesting way to add some dirt-road capability without losing the handsome retro styling that is arguably RGNT’s biggest calling card.

The bikes are currently only available in Europe, but RGNT has announced that it expects to enter the US market in 2027 with prices starting at US $9,995, meaning there could be RGNT Street Scramblers cruising around US streets sooner rather than later.
