- Buick is offering the Electra L7 EV in three versions, with pre-sales starting price matching that of the extended-range version.
- The model comes standard with an 800-volt architecture and CATL batteries, offering 702 km of CLTC range.
General Motors’ (NYSE: GM) Buick brand announced pre-sales prices for the all-electric version of the Electra L7 sedan in China on Wednesday, bringing the model a step closer to its official launch.
Three versions are being offered in the pre-sales, with official prices of 194,900 yuan, 211,900 yuan and 231,900 yuan.
After limited-time incentives, the three versions start at 184,900 yuan, 201,900 yuan and 221,900 yuan, respectively. With subsidies added, the pre-sales prices fall to 169,900 yuan ($25,020), 186,900 yuan and 206,900 yuan.
Buick announced on July 24 that it had opened pre-orders for the model, but did not disclose prices or version details at the time.
The starting price matches that of the extended-range Electra L7. That model went on sale in China on September 28, 2025, with the same limited-time starting price of 169,900 yuan.
The all-electric version is built on an 800-volt platform that Buick calls “the industry’s safest,” and comes standard with 6C fast-charging technology that allows it to add 450 km of range in 10 minutes.
The car uses an 80.6-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750), giving it a CLTC range of 702 km.
It has a single rear-mounted motor with maximum power of 282 kW (378 hp) and peak torque of 382 Nm, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Its top speed is 220 km/h.
The sedan measures 5,032 mm long, 1,952 mm wide and 1,499 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, making it a mid to large-size sedan with the same dimensions as the extended-range version.
The cabin is powered by a Qualcomm SA8775P chip and features a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch center control screen, a 50-inch panoramic AR-HUD and a 27-speaker Buick Sound audio system.
For assisted driving, the model uses a system built on the R6 reinforcement learning model from Chinese autonomous driving startup Momenta (HKEX: 6880), with the R7 version to be pushed later via an over-the-air update.
The chassis uses a preview suspension design that Buick said can detect road bumps 20 meters ahead.
The Electra L7 EV will go head-to-head with joint-venture electric sedans in China such as the Toyota bZ7, as well as Chinese brand models including the Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810) SU7 and the Luxeed S7.
The pre-sales comes as SAIC Motor (SSE: 600104) and GM signed an agreement on August 5 to extend their SAIC-GM joint venture by 20 years to 2047.
The joint venture plans to launch at least 30 new energy vehicle (NEV) models by 2030.
In the first seven months of this year, SAIC-GM cumulative sales were 265,927 units, down 7.45% year-on-year.
