The Denza Z is not your average supercar. With three electric motors packing over 1,500 hp combined, it can hit 62 mph in under 2 seconds. Global pre-orders are “booming,” according to BYD, with over 1,000 in five days.

    BYD Denza Z global pre-orders surpass 1,000

BYD launched the Denza Z at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Friday, with pre-orders starting at £142,900 ($192,000) in the UK.

On Monday, it opened pre-orders in China, starting at just 680,000 RMB ($100,000), or about half the price in the UK.

Denza announced on Tuesday that “global pre-orders are booming, with orders exceeding 1,000 units,” a day after opening in China and five days since launching in the UK on July 9. According to BYD’s luxury sub-brand, all versions are “selling well” so far.

The Denza Z is BYD’s first electric supercar, based on its e3 platform, featuring “the world’s first intelligent triple-motor torque control system” designed for the racetrack.

It’s available in three variants: Coupe, Spider, and Racing, all of which feature three electric motors delivering a combined 1,582 horsepower (1,604 PS) and 914 lb-ft (1,240 Nm) of torque.

The Racing model is the quickest of the bunch. With the optional semi-slick tires, the Denza Z Racing edition can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in just 1.96 seconds and can reach a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h).

The Coupe and Spider variants take slightly longer to reach 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h), at 2.25 and 2.30 seconds, respectively. Still, faster than most gas-powered supercars, including the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

BYD’s e3 platform is the first in China to feature a full-stack self-developed steer-by-wire system, replacing the standard wheel column to improve responsiveness and handling.

The Denza Z is also the first e3-based vehicle to use BYD’s DiSus-M intelligent damping system, which BYD claims “can change viscosity in milliseconds” when exposed to a magnetic field.

Based on an 800V architecture with BYD’s Flash Charging tech, the Denza Z’s battery can recharge from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes.

The new battery and charging tech “makes it the first electric supercar whose performance can be exploited and enjoyed completely, without concerns over range or how long it will take to recharge,” according to BYD.

All Denza Z models are powered by a 76 kWh BYD Blade Battery 2.0 battery. The Coupe has the longest WLTP range of the three at 410 km (254 miles), while the Spider and Racing variants are rated at 400 km (248 miles) and 380 km (236 miles), respectively.

Inside, the Denza Z is equipped with an 8.88″ digital instrument panel and a 12.8″ center infotainment screen with Google built-in.

The steering wheel draws inspiration from motorsport, featuring six physical buttons for easy access to key functions, including Track and Boost modes.

The Denza Z measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,350 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,780 mm, or a bit longer than the Porsche 911.

It also includes a premium audio system with speakers built into the headrests. The Coupe and Racing versions feature a 12-speaker setup, while the Spider gets 10.

With pre-orders now open in the UK and China, BYD expects to deliver the first Denza Z models by the end of the year.

    Electrek’s Take

Although almost $200,000 (£142,900) may seem expensive, given what the Denza Z offers, it’s relatively affordable.

The Denza Z is still cheaper and faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo S, which starts at £199,100 ($266,500) and has a 0-62 mph acceleration time of as little as 2.5 seconds.

BYD will continue opening pre-orders in select markets throughout the year and into 2027 as Denza becomes a true global luxury brand.

The Z joins the Z9 GT and D9 in Denza’s expanding lineup for overseas markets.
