Toyota is giving the 2027 Tundra a tougher personality with the addition of a new Trailhunter package, bringing factory-backed off-road hardware to its full-size pickup without pushing buyers straight into the most expensive trims. Unlike the Tacoma and 4Runner Trailhunter models that sit higher in their respective lineups, the Tundra Trailhunter is based on the SR5 grade. That should make it a more attainable way for buyers to get a trail-ready Tundra with useful upgrades straight from Toyota.

The package adds the kind of hardware owners often chase in the aftermarket. Toyota equips the Tundra Trailhunter with Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires, 18-inch bronze-finished wheels, an Old Man Emu upgraded suspension, front recovery hooks, and additional underbody protection. It also gets a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, and Crawl Control, giving the truck more confidence when traction gets tricky. This is not positioned as the most extreme Tundra in the pipeline, especially with rumors of a more aggressive TRD Hammer variant still floating around, but it looks like a practical off-road setup for buyers who actually want to use their truck.

Because the Trailhunter is built from the SR5, it is expected to use Toyota’s nonhybrid twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 unless the company announces changes closer to launch. In current SR5 form, that engine makes 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, giving the Tundra plenty of muscle for everyday hauling, towing, and trail use. Toyota has not confirmed whether the i-FORCE MAX hybrid will be available with the Trailhunter package, so shoppers looking for maximum output may need to look elsewhere in the lineup.

The rest of the 2027 Tundra lineup also gets a noticeable refresh. The front end has been reshaped with a boxier grille and more squared-off lower bumper, giving the truck a broader, more assertive look. The Trailhunter adds its own visual details, including bronze accents and model-specific badging inside and out. It is a familiar Toyota strategy: give buyers enough functional hardware to matter, then add just enough design separation to make the package easy to spot.

Inside, the biggest update is technology. Every 2027 Tundra now comes standard with a 14-inch touchscreen running Toyota’s latest multimedia system. Built-in AT&T 5G connectivity is part of the update, along with a standard driver recorder that can capture short clips from the vehicle’s exterior cameras. Toyota has also updated safety and driver-assistance technology, while the available front light bar has been improved for better visibility on dark roads and trails.

Toyota has not released pricing yet for the 2027 Tundra lineup or the Trailhunter package, with more details expected later this year. For reference, the 2026 Tundra SR5 started at $48,705, so it would not be surprising to see a Trailhunter-equipped 2027 model climb beyond $50,000 once the package is added. That would still likely keep it below the most expensive factory off-road trucks, which appears to be the point. The 2027 Tundra Trailhunter looks like Toyota’s answer for buyers who want real trail gear, full-size truck capability, and a more reasonable price than a fully loaded adventure rig.
