Jeep is giving the reborn Cherokee a little more attitude for 2027 with the return of the Trailhawk, a trim that has long served as the brand’s answer for buyers who want more than rugged styling. The new 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk takes the recently redesigned compact SUV and adds meaningful hardware aimed at making it more comfortable away from pavement. With a taller stance, all-terrain tires, additional underbody protection and a more capable four-wheel-drive system, the Trailhawk looks ready to put some genuine Jeep credibility back into the smaller Cherokee lineup.
The visual changes are easy to spot. Jeep gives the Trailhawk unique front and rear fascias, signature red tow hooks and 17-inch wheels wrapped in 245/65R-17 Nexen Roadian ATX all-terrain tires. More importantly, the suspension gets revised tuning along with a 1-inch lift. Those changes improve the Cherokee’s approach angle to 28.8 degrees and its departure angle to 31.8 degrees, giving drivers more breathing room when climbing over obstacles or dropping down steeper terrain. Jeep also says the Trailhawk posts a 45-point improvement in Ramp Travel Index compared with other Cherokee models, suggesting the suspension has considerably more flexibility when the terrain gets uneven.
Jeep has also added the protection needed to back up the Trailhawk badge. Steel skid plates help shield the front axle, fuel tank, wiring and hybrid battery from rocks and other trail hazards. Ground clearance grows to 9 inches, while Jeep rates the SUV for water fording up to 24 inches deep. Those figures do not turn the Cherokee into a Wrangler, nor are they supposed to, but they should make the Trailhawk far more comfortable on rocky trails, muddy access roads and the sort of weekend adventures where an ordinary compact crossover might start feeling out of its element.
Helping put the power down is Jeep’s Quadra-Trac II 4×4 system, paired with a locking rear differential and two-speed transfer case. That combination is a substantial step up from simply fitting chunkier tires and adding black plastic trim, something the increasingly crowded rugged-crossover segment has made easy to spot. The Cherokee Trailhawk instead follows a familiar Jeep formula by combining useful mechanical upgrades with the styling cues buyers expect. It also gives Jeep a stronger rival for adventure-focused compact SUVs such as the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands and Subaru Forester Wilderness.
Orders for the 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk are already open, with production scheduled to begin later this year. Pricing starts at $44,625, positioning it just below the more luxury-minded Cherokee Overland. That price puts the Trailhawk toward the upper end of the compact SUV market, but buyers are getting considerably more specialized hardware for the money. For anyone who liked the return of the Cherokee but thought it needed a little more of Jeep’s traditional go-anywhere personality, the 2027 Trailhawk looks like the version that finally completes the lineup.
