Ford is changing up the F-150 engine lineup for 2027, and the biggest news may be what is happening at both ends of the powertrain strategy. A dealership order guide has revealed that the familiar twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 is being replaced as the base engine by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. At the same time, Ford is expanding availability of the 5.0-liter V8 to more upscale trims, giving buyers of the King Ranch and Platinum models a traditional V8 option again.

The new 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 is already used in several Ford and Lincoln products, including the Explorer, Aviator, Ranger Raptor, and Bronco Raptor. In those applications, output ranges from the high 300s to more than 400 horsepower, though Ford has not yet released final F-150 numbers. It would make sense for the truck version to out-muscle the outgoing 325-horsepower 2.7-liter V6, but Ford may tune it carefully so it does not crowd the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 or the 5.0-liter V8, both of which currently sit around the 400-horsepower mark.

The expanded V8 availability is the enthusiast angle here. Previously, King Ranch and Platinum buyers were generally steered toward the 3.5-liter V6 in either standard EcoBoost or PowerBoost hybrid form. For 2027, those luxury-focused F-150 trims are expected to offer the 5.0-liter V8, giving buyers who want premium interiors and old-school engine character a factory-backed path without stepping down to another trim. That matters because the modern truck buyer is not always choosing between work and luxury. Many want both, with a proper V8 soundtrack included.

This move also feels like Ford answering Ram’s recent V8 momentum. Ram brought the HEMI back to the 1500 after strong customer demand, and for 2027 it is pushing even harder with nonhybrid HEMI V8 offerings that ditch stop-start technology and the eTorque mild-hybrid setup in certain new trucks, including the Rumble Bee. That is a clear signal that Ram sees value in giving truck buyers a more traditional V8 experience. Ford expanding the 5.0-liter V8 into King Ranch and Platinum trims looks like a smart response to that same customer appetite.

The rest of the F-150 lineup should continue to offer plenty of choice. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 remains, as does the PowerBoost hybrid setup for buyers who want more efficiency and onboard power capability. Ford is also reportedly adding new paint colors for 2027, including Birch Sand, Neptune Blue, and Wild Green, while retiring Antimatter Blue, Argon Blue, and Avalanche. More details should arrive in the coming months, but the early message is clear: Ford is not walking away from turbocharged efficiency, but it also knows the V8 still carries real weight in the half-ton truck fight.
