Xiaomi Sky Nomad pre-orders estimated at over 100,000, aiding its annual delivery goal

    • Xiaomi Sky Nomad’s two EREV SUVs have generally received 200 to 300 intent-deposit orders per store, according to a local media report.
    • The seven-seat N90 has proved more popular, with cumulative pre-orders in Beijing and Tianjin exceeding 30,000.

Pre-orders for Xiaomi’s (HKEX: 1810) newly launched Sky Nomad extended-range SUV (sport utility vehicle) lineup may have exceeded 100,000, local media outlet Cailian reported on Wednesday.

The outlet visited and contacted Xiaomi EV stores in Beijing, Wuhan, Shanghai, Chengdu and other cities over the past week, finding that each store had generally received 200 to 300 intent-deposit orders.

Xiaomi currently has 499 auto sales stores across China, suggesting total pre-orders may have surpassed 100,000, according to the report.

It is worth noting that the figure is an estimate based on a sample of stores rather than official data from Xiaomi.

Regional figures were also strong. An employee at a Xiaomi store in a Beijing shopping mall said the city alone received 4,800 intent-deposit orders on Sunday, August 2, while cumulative pre-orders in the Beijing-Tianjin region had exceeded 30,000.

The large seven-seat N90 SUV is the preferred choice among consumers. A salesperson at a Xiaomi store in Beijing said the location had received more than 300 intent-deposit orders for the Sky Nomad lineup, with the N90 accounting for a larger share.

Xiaomi officially introduced the Sky Nomad lineup on July 30 and began pre-sales for the 2 models. The flagship seven-seat N90 has a pre-sales price of 299,900 yuan ($44,180), while the five-seat N70 is priced at 259,900 yuan.

Both models are built on Xiaomi’s new Kunlun architecture and are scheduled to officially launch in September. Customers are required to pay a 1,000-yuan intent deposit to secure their place in the order queue.

A salesperson at a store in Wuhan said the N70 is mainly positioned against Li Auto’s (NASDAQ: LI) Li L7, with interior space as its core advantage and the spacious family SUV market as its primary target.

Regarding deliveries, sales staff said the Sky Nomad lineup has entered production at the second phase of Xiaomi EV’s Beijing manufacturing base, and some vehicles will be available for immediate delivery after the September launch.

“Xiaomi’s overall production capacity is currently increasing steadily, and there will not be the delivery delays and excessively long waiting periods seen with the YU7,” a salesperson interviewed in the report said.

The production ramp-up is crucial for Xiaomi. The company has set a delivery target of 550,000 vehicles for 2026 and delivered about 220,000 units from January through July. Monthly deliveries of the SU7 and YU7 have remained at around 30,000 units.

That means Xiaomi needs to deliver more than 60,000 vehicles per month on average over the remaining 5 months to meet its annual target.

The aggressive pricing of the Sky Nomad lineup had previously raised market concerns. Xiaomi’s Hong Kong-listed shares fell as much as 11% on July 31 and closed 7.28% lower.

A team of Deutsche Bank analysts led by Wang Bin attributed the pricing strategy to Xiaomi’s pressure to boost sales.

The N90 Max is priced at 299,900 yuan ($44,170) in pre-sales and the N70 Max at 259,900 yuan, below the 339,000 yuan Tesla Model Y L.
