- Xiaomi EV’s May deliveries rose 16.94% year-on-year, but fell 10.74% from April.
- Deliveries of the YU7, a Tesla Model Y rival, saw a sequential decline for the fifth consecutive month.
Xiaomi EV, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810), delivered 32,759 vehicles in May, up 16.94% from a year earlier, according to data released Monday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Despite the annual growth, the monthly delivery volume slipped 10.74% from April.
Previously, Xiaomi announced on June 1 that its May deliveries exceeded 30,000 units, while the CPCA report provided the specific figures and model breakdowns.
During the January-May period of this year, Xiaomi EV delivered a cumulative total of 150,317 vehicles, an increase of 13.48% year-on-year.

However, the performance of its core products is facing challenges.
The SU7 sedan delivered 24,023 units in May, down 14.24% year-on-year. This marked the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year decline for the model, while it also dropped 10.45% from April.
In the first five months of the year, the SU7 delivered a total of 60,082 units. This figure represents a sharp 54.64% decrease from the same period last year, highlighting the significant pressure the model has encountered during its product transition phase.

Meanwhile, the YU7 SUV (sport utility vehicle) delivered 8,736 units in May. This performance was down 11.54% from April, marking the fifth consecutive month of sequential decline.
During the January-May period, total deliveries of the YU7 reached 90,235 units. The model was launched on June 26, 2025.

In an effort to reverse the downward trend of certain models and further expand its market share, Xiaomi adopted an aggressive product expansion strategy in late May. The company introduced two entirely new YU7 variants to cover a broader consumer base.
On May 21, Xiaomi launched a new base model of the YU7 SUV. The starting price of the model was set at 233,500 yuan ($34,422), aiming to significantly lower the barrier to purchase.
This reintroduced base YU7 was actually planned three years ago but was canceled at the last minute before launch. Xiaomi hopes to use it to further challenge Tesla’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y in the world’s largest EV market.
In addition, Xiaomi has also made a push into higher-premium segments. Also on May 21, the company launched the high-performance SUV model YU7 GT, with a starting price of 389,900 yuan.
The pure electric SUV features a 990 hp dual-motor system and set a lap record of 7 minutes and 22.755 seconds at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. The result solidifies its title as the fastest production SUV in Nürburgring history.
Strong delivery performance is crucial to Xiaomi’s automotive business. The company’s innovative business (including EV and AI) recorded an operating loss of 3.1 billion yuan in the first quarter.
This financial setback was primarily attributed to the drag of the traditional Spring Festival holiday. Furthermore, the short-term impact brought about by the transition period of the core SU7 facelift also temporarily suppressed the division’s profitability.
With an enriched product lineup and improved delivery capabilities, Xiaomi is striving to achieve its ambitious annual goals. The company has set its full-year vehicle delivery target for 2026 at 550,000 units.
This target represents an increase of about 34% compared to the about 410,000 vehicles in 2025. To achieve this goal, Xiaomi EV needs to maintain a strong sales recovery momentum in the coming months.
Based on the data released so far, most automakers saw a rebound in sales in May, gradually emerging from the off-season that began at the start of the year.
