The Audi A4 is in a tough spot right now because there technically isn’t a 2026 model year available. Buyers may be able to find some 2025 A4s left on dealer lots, but order books are closed and inventory might not last for long. That said, the 2025 A4 started at $44,100 for the Premium trim, then the Premium Plus and Prestige trims started at $48,600 and $51,300, respectively. There’s also the A4 Allroad, which comes in a station-wagon body style for a few thousand more dollars per trim level.
BMW offers its 3 Series sedan in a few variations. Ignoring the five M340i and M3 trims, buyers can choose between two basic versions: the 330i and the 330i xDrive. Everything about these two cheapest trims is identical except for their drivetrains. The regular 330i is rear-wheel drive, while the xDrive trim is all-wheel drive. Price starts at $48,000 for RWD, and the xDrive model costs $50,000 before destination, options, and fees.
The Kia K5 GT’s Resale Value Wins

Depreciation comes for all cars, regardless of variant, segment, or special edition. However, some more desirable trim levels may hold value better than others. In the battle among the K5, A4, and 3 Series, the Kia actually comes out on top. According to CarEdge, the Kia K5 loses about 43% of its value after its first five years on the road. In comparison, the Audi A4 depreciates by 46%, and the BMW 3 Series loses about 53% of its value after the same timeframe.
The Audi A4 holds its value better than some other models from the brand. For example, the S8 loses about 68% of its value after five years, while the RS Q8 loses about 34% of its value, placing the A4 in the middle of the pack. The BMW 3 Series follows a similar path. Even though it has the worst depreciation among the three sedans in this article, it’s not as bad as the depreciation of other BMW models.
Kia K5 GT Maintenance and Repair Costs

Kia doesn’t have the best reputation for reliability, but the K5 still looks pretty great compared to German luxury models. CarEdge reports that the K5 costs an average of $6,381 in maintenance and repairs over its first 10 years on the road; that’s actually $416 less than the industry average for popular sedans. It also has an 18.11% chance of needing a major repair (one that costs over $500) within the same timeframe, beating similar vehicles in this segment by 1.15%.
For reassurance about the K5’s reliability, J.D. Power gave the 2026 K5 an initial quality and reliability score of 85 out of 100. RepairPal also says the Kia brand earns a 4 out of 5 for reliability, beating many outdated expectations among used car buyers.

That said, it’s still far more expensive to keep than a K5, since it costs an average of $9,645 to maintain and repair over ten years. That’s barely better than the industry average for luxury sedans by $296. It also has a 27.69% chance of requiring a major repair within that timeframe, beating the industry average by 1.44%.
The BMW 3 Series doesn’t fare so well. Owners can expect to pay an average of $14,345 for maintenance and repairs over the first ten years, which is $4,996 worse than the luxury sedan average. CarEdge also claims the 3 Series has a 41.71% chance of needing a major repair during that time.

If the K5’s maintenance and depreciation figures didn’t surprise you, perhaps its performance will. The A4 and 330i aren’t the sportiest versions of their respective model lineups, but they cost enough to make buyers wonder if they could be getting a better ride for less. That’s where the K5 GT comes in: it’s the only trim in the K5’s lineup with a turbocharged engine that actually delivers higher outputs than the A4 and 330i.
What buyers might be worried about, though, is its drivetrain. Kia offers the K5 GT only with front-wheel drive, while the A4 comes standard with all-wheel drive, and the 330i can be had with either rear- or all-wheel drive. The resulting performance differences include the A4 and 330i’s better grip and handling in corners, even though the K5 GT has a higher top speed.

Save Money With Little Compromise

If you want the most reliable car with the lowest maintenance costs, buy a Toyota. Those who want a little fun can find solace in the Kia K5 GT. It’s cheaper to buy and maintain than German sedans, it’s as fast as, or faster than, those luxury models, and its dual-clutch transmission is as smooth as Audi’s S Tronic DCT. FWD be damned, the sedan handles well in the canyons, too. You may have to spend extra on options to make it as comfortable as a German base model, but it’ll still be cheaper, fully loaded, than the most basic 330i.
