Volkswagen is marking down 2025 ID.4 models with a $12,500 customer cash discount to move inventory.
Volkswagen sends off the ID.4 with big discounts
The ID.4, Volkswagen’s first electric SUV, is being phased out in North America. At least in its current form. Volkswagen ended production of the ID.4 at its Chattanooga, Tennessee plant in April to retool the assembly lines for better-selling gas-powered SUVs, including the three-row Atlas.
Volkswagen said it had enough supply of the current ID.4 models to “support customer demand into 2027,” when its replacement is expected to go on sale (more on that later).
Apparently, it has more than enough. Volkswagen is marking down 2025 ID.4 SUVs with a generous $12,500 customer cash discount.
Volkswagen will literally give you $12,500 toward the purchase or lease of a new 2025 electric ID.4. However, it might not be easy to get your hands on one. Inventory is “very limited,” according to VW.

The 2026 ID.4 is available with a $6,000 customer bonus discount. While it’s not $12,500, a $6,000 discount is still a relatively good deal.
Volkswagen is offering only a $2,000 bonus for the Taos and $3,000 for the similarly sized Tiguan SUV.
Volkswagen’s electric SUV (2025 and 2026MY) uses an 82 kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated range of up to 291 miles in RWD variants. For AWD models, the range drops to around 263 miles.

The ID.4 is available in five trims: two entry-level models (Pro, AWD Pro), two S variants (Pro S, AWD Pro S), and one S Plus model (AWD Pro S Plus). The base VW ID.4 Pro RWD starts at $45,095 with up to 291 miles of range.
What’s next for the electric SUV?
So, what’s next for Volkswagen’s electric SUV? VW said that “a future version of ID.4 is currently planned for the North American market,” promising more details soon.
As part of Volkswagen’s revamped EV lineup, which started with the ID. Polo and ID. Cross in Europe, the ID.4 will be rebranded as the ID. Tiguan, taking the best-selling nameplate electric.
The updated electric SUV (shown on the right above) has been spotted testing several times ahead of its debut. Compared to the ID.4, the ID. Tiguan will have a more traditional boxy, SUV-like design rather than rounded edges and corners. It will also feature new doors and traditional pop-out door handles.
Inside, the ID. Tiguan is expected to adopt VW’s new interior design. The setup, which first debuted in the ID. Polo, includes a new infotainment system, plus VW brought back physical buttons based on driver feedback.

According to Automotive News, the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will make an official debut by the end of 2026. The electric SUV will replace the ID.4 at Volkswagen’s Emden, Germany, plant.
We should learn more details soon, but with VW’s recent battery and electric drive updates, the ID. Tiguan is expected to arrive with improved driving range and charging performance compared to the current ID.4.
