Want a little more style with your big Lexus? A Japanese tuner called Tom’s, which is closely cozied up with Toyota and Lexus, might have just the ticket. Tom’s has just revealed its takes on the latest Lexus GX, Lexus LX, Lexus LC convertible, and the absurdly wonderful Lexus LM van, that let them stand out without jumping out like some sort of flashy Toyota instead of a vehicle with an L on the hood.

Yes, This GX Looks Like A Shoe

The Lexus GX Taylor’s Tom’s version is the boldest of the trio, so we’ll start there. The idea behind the design, and the tri-color finish, was “trail running.” Yes, it’s meant to remind you of a solid trail sneaker, and it does a good job of that.

Those corners are orange because Tom’s wants them to pop. It doesn’t just look like a shoe; it should improve safety. Too bad it’s paint and not rubber, because the latter would actually let it protect the corners of the SUV on the trail.

Tom’s doesn’t show any interior changes, but it does talk about them. They include using deer skin for the interior, which was going to be discarded. It also used mushroom-based leather for the cabin.

Lord Vader, Your LX Is Ready

The larger Tom’s Edition Lexus LX exudes intimidating energy without being over-the-top about it. Side pipes poking out from under wide side steps accentuate that, with the steps perfect for someone who wants to do a drive-by and make a quick getaway.

“This car is not meant to be seen by anyone,” the designer said. That might be a translation error, but it also makes sense. The big black Lexus blends into the background, especially at night. You won’t notice it in a sea of SUVs, but if you do see it, there is plenty to look at.

TOM’S Racing will show a tuned GR Yaris hot hatch, Crown Sport crossover, and Land Cruiser 250 SUV at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon.

On this one, Tom’s has gone to town on the interior as well. New quilted leather seats and other changes make an already fancy SUV even more luxurious.

A Stealthy LM With Shades Of Burt Reynolds

Tom’s describes this black and gold LM as “not flashy,” calling it a “quiet aura.” There’s a new front lip and side skirts, and obviously, the company has also gone and refinished all the exterior trim in a gold color. We’re just a screaming chicken away from a weird Smokey and the Bandit reboot.

The van’s interior trim matches the outside. All the seats are black with gold trim, and they’re the same as or better than airplane seats as the standard van. The designer picked the colors because of “the brilliance of gold and the cycle of constant good luck.” If you’re being driven in one of these, you’re definitely riding that good luck, and this experience is meant to help you improve the quality of that time.

    An LC Without Its Spindle

Normally, any Lexus LC would be our favorite, but Tom’s has made a change we’re not so sure about. The company ditched the spindle grille, but replaced it with what looks like a grille from a 2006 Lexus IS. Some might call it sacrilege. Others might say it’s an improvement. Whichever side you fall on, it’s at least different.

Tom’s has upgraded the suspension to help the LC handle more sharply. It will also have more power from the V8 engine and a bigger sound. Interior upgrades keep the factory color but add some dark trim to make it feel more premium.

Tom’s is going to put all four vehicles into limited production. Adding the complete package to the LM van costs 11.5 million yen ($73,000). The LX package adds 12.9 million ($82,000). It has yet to announce pricing for the GX, but the LC starts from 9.9 million yen ($63,000) plus the car. And one more addition is coming for each of these four Tom’s models. More power.

It’s also easier to get, if you live in the right place.

The company was founded on tuning, and this luxury trio will be no different. Engineering is still underway, so there aren’t any figures, but expect each one to offer more power than it did sitting at a Toyota showroom.
