There’s Only One Manual, Twin-Turbo V6, Rear-Wheel Drive Sedan Left In America

Remember the days when many leading manufacturers offered loud, defiant, quick, and sometimes even silly cars? There were several of these unfiltered, analog monsters around, featuring rear-wheel drive and an all-important stick for the purists. Today, EVs and crossovers are taking over the market. The sad news is that there’s just one manual, twin-turbo, V6, and rear-wheel-drive sedan in the country. It’s the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing.

The Last of Its Kind. A True Sports Sedan

In 2026, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is the last true purist sedan standing, thanks to its manual gearbox and fabulous twin-turbo V6. No Japanese imports or European rivals qualify, and there isn’t a boutique company that can deliver this exact recipe in a sedan format today. So, if you want a four-door car with a rear-drive layout, this is it.

Purists will know that the shift away from manual transmissions has been underway for years, and all-wheel drive has largely replaced rear-wheel drive in most luxury models. Yes, you can still get a stick shift in coupes such as the Toyota GR Supra or Nissan Z, but they aren’t sedans. While there are other twin-turbo V6 vehicles, those manufacturers typically pair the engine with AWD, an automatic transmission, or both.

Even worse news is that the CT4-V Blackwing won’t stick around for much longer. It’s one of 53 cars that won’t make it to the 2027 model year.

The Purist’s Dream With 472 HP And Stick

Underneath the hood of the CT4-V Blackwing is a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6, which produces 472 hp and 445 lb.-ft of torque. That’s already more power than the current BMW M340i, but unlike the Bimmer, this one features a six-speed Tremec manual transmission. The gearbox also features no-lift shift, rev matching, and a short-throw shifter, providing a more mechanical feel. Yes, you can get a ten-speed automatic if you want, but purists would undoubtedly choose the stick.

The Blackwing can accelerate to 60 mph in approximately 4.1 seconds with the manual transmission, and slightly quicker with the automatic. The throttle response is good, and you get plenty of turbocharged torque very quickly. The engineers have designed the clutch to be well-weighted but not too heavy. The dual-mode exhaust system announces your arrival and can be aggressive depending on the driving mode selection and throttle input. Perhaps most satisfyingly, you can certainly drive this car hard and immerse yourself in its analog feedback, which is excellent in a world where gearboxes using CVTs, dual-clutch transmissions, and torque converters are the norm.

The Balanced, Brutal, But Also Comfortable Blackwing

The CT4-V Blackwing rides on GM’s Alpha platform, for rear-wheel-drive-focused vehicles. The same platform is underneath the previous Chevrolet Camaro, and it boasts excellent weight distribution and a low center of gravity. The Blackwing also features Magnetic Ride Control 4.0, which utilizes adaptive dampers that can instantly respond to changing road conditions. The car also has an electronic limited-slip differential for sending power to the corner with the most grip, resulting in sharper handling.

The CT4-V Blackwing’s steering feels crisp and communicative, a quality that’s not always in today’s vehicles, where electric assistance seems to be the norm. The setup lets you know exactly where the front end is pointing. Drivers can even cut back the traction control system for less intervention from the tech. If you enjoy that kind of thing, the CT4-V Blackwing can be delightfully tail-happy, in a controlled environment, of course.

All of this means that the CT4-V Blackwing is for spirited driving. Cadillac designers and engineers reportedly benchmarked the car against sporting legends like the BMW M3 and Audi RS3, so you’re certainly getting a sedan that matches some of the best.

    Interior Comfort and Driver Focus

Inside the Blackwing is a great blend of modern comfort and old-school driving focus. The controls feel analog. There’s also a thick-rimmed steering wheel, and the manual shifter dominates the center console. Buyers enjoy creature comforts, including a 12-inch configurable gauge cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a heads-up display. Motorists can switch between driving modes using tactile buttons.

The front seats of your Caddy offer ample support for quick driving, while also featuring heating, ventilation, and optional massage functions. You can easily accommodate adults in the rear seats, while the trunk is large enough to fit their luggage. Certain trims feature carbon fiber accents and premium leather, as well, so there’s a great baseline level of refinement that underscores the fact that this is a Cadillac.

    The Last Rays of Sunshine

Some people might call the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing a unicorn, as the last manual, twin-turbo V6, rear-wheel drive, four-door sports sedan built in America. It’s also a car for people who love to celebrate the art of driving, and who may practice heel-and-toe downshifts, or enjoy executing the perfect line through a tightening corner.

In short, it’s a vehicle for you if you appreciate driving for its own sake, and the model may also be the last chance that you might ever get to buy a car with this type of configuration. Cadillac is going all-in on its electric future, at the same time that the manual transmission concept itself is on the decline. Yes, you can still find rear-wheel-drive systems if you want an exotic or a muscle car, but in a true sedan, and with a twin-turbo V6, not so much. So, if you want one of these cars, don’t hesitate, as the stick-shift, twin-turbo V6 sedan with power to its rear wheels may now be taking its final bow.
