Forget the idea that going green means giving up raw power or breaking the bank, and shelve the thought that pickup trucks need gas-guzzling powertrains to get the job done. Hybrid trucks exist that top their lineups for power and efficiency, and while it’s true that they aren’t particularly cheap (we’re looking at you, Toyota Tundra Capstone), there is a way to own one without spending $80,000 or even $65,000.

The best used trucks are still relatively fresh, since most have only been launched in the last five or six years – some as recently as 2024. That means you can get a two-year old used truck at a bargain price, while still benefiting from new technology and recent designs, all while skipping the steep new-vehicle depreciation hit. Ranked from the most affordable to the priciest, here are the absolute best used hybrid pickup trucks you can buy in the US right now.

This list looks at full hybrid pickup trucks on the used car market, and does not include trucks with mild-hybrid technology. We rank these trucks based on their average used price, from cheapest to most expensive, where pricing has been determined by taking examples from the CarBuzz marketplace.

    1

    2024 Ford Maverick

    Average Used Value: $30,000

First on this list of best used trucks is the 2024 Ford Maverick, Ford’s smallest pickup which comes with two powertrain options for 2024. The EcoBoost-powered Maverick might be the most powerful in the lineup, but it’s the hybrid that really steals the show. For 2024, the hybrid powertrain was a $1,500 optional extra, adding the 2.5-liter hybrid setup over the default motor. The hybrid makes 191 horsepower combined and uses a CVT; it’s exclusively front-wheel drive for 2024, but that yields exceptional fuel economy at 42/33/37 mpg on the city/highway/combined cycles. It can also tow up to 2,000 pounds when correctly equipped and manage payloads of up to 1,500 lbs.

Hybrid Mavericks have the same cab configuration as non-hybrids, with four doors and a spacious back seat for passengers. An eight-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cloth upholstery, and 17-inch wheels are standard on base models, but heated front seats, SiriusXM and navigation, faux leather upholstery, and Bang & Olufsen sound are available.

    insight

“Ford has managed to deliver the perfect truck for most Americans who feel like they need a truck…For the price and its sheer utility value, the Maverick is hard to fault in any trim level. It is, despite its size and price, a Ford truck in every sense.”

    Ian Wright

    Motor Journalist

JD Power rates 2024 models with an 85 out of 100 score for quality and reliability, making the 2024 model year one of the most reliable models to buy. While 2025 models get a few more features, access to all-wheel drive, and a slight facelift, those models will cost you a little more than $30k. Used 2024 Maverick Hybrids average around $30,000 right now, with non-hybrids coming in a little cheaper, according to our price trends graphs.

The Ford Maverick Hybrid truck is a good used buy for those that don’t require heavy-duty towing and hauling, want an efficient city runabout that has added practicality, and can still ferry the family around, too.

    2

    2024 Ford F-150

    Average Used Value: $40,000

Ford’s most famous truck, the F-150, was given a hybrid powertrain in 2021 called PowerBoost, boosting efficiency substantially. The 2024 F-150 Hybrid is a great used buy as it uses a hybridized version of the 3.5-liter V6 engine found in the regular F-150, earning gas mileage figures of 22/24/23 mpg, which is an improvement on the 16/24/19 mpg the non-hybrid V6 gets. Along with that improvement, the hybrid model is also the most powerful with 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque, which outdoes both the 5.0-liter V8 and EcoBoost V6.

The 2024 Hybrid F-150 has a lot going for it, including a Top Safety award from the IIHS and an excellent depreciation outlook – according to CarEdge, 2024 models retain 70% of their value over five years of ownership. The 2024 model year was also a good one for the F-150 lineup, with the trucks being refreshed, more features being made available, and a larger 12-inch infotainment screen being made standard across the lineup.

With the hybrid powertrain in play, the Ford F-150 can still tow up to 12,700 lbs and carry nearly 2,500 lbs in the bed. It’s also currently ranked as the most efficient full-size pickup truck – and new it costs around $55k. Looking at two-year-old models saves you at least $15k, with well-looked after models averaging around $40,000 right now.

    3

    2024 Toyota Tacoma

    Average Used Value: $50,000

The Toyota Tacoma Hybrid has only been around since 2024, although the nameplate was already nearly 30 years old when it was introduced to the US market. The i-Force Max powertrain, made up of the brand’s 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with electric motors, tops the lineup as the most potent at 326 hp and 465 lb-ft – a big improvement on the 228 – 278 hp options lower in the range.

Sporting a brand-new design for 2024, the Tacoma lineup offered affordable trucking with a wide range of choices across powertrains, configurations, and trim levels. There are off-road models that are solid performers off the beaten path, and the hybrid powertrain – while not massively efficient – makes a difference in that it improves the city gas mileage figure from 20 mpg to 22 mpg, keeps the rest more or less the same, but adds a massive bump up in power. It can tow up to 6,000 lbs (depending on configuration).

    Expert
    insight

“The Tacoma i-Force Max is positioned for buyers who want the most performance with the best possible fuel efficiency. It may not be necessary for every truck owner, but we are happy to see Toyota innovate with proven technology. The idea of a hybrid pickup may sound blasphemous to traditionalist truck owners, but we promise you won’t be disappointed if you give it a try.”

    Jared Rosenholtz

    Former Editor-at-Large

Hybrid Tacomas cost around $50,000 new in 2026, but that’s for the base trim you can get with the i-Force Max setup. Opting for a two-year-old model means you can get the best-equipped versions, like the Limited, for the same price: used values for upper-tier hybrid Tacomas from its debut year average around $50,000, which is a bargain buy if you want the more luxurious models in the lineup.

    4

    2024 Toyota Tundra

    Average Used Value: $53,000

The bigger brother of the Tacoma, the Toyota Tundra Hybrid made its way to market two years earlier. The first-ever Tundra Hybrid arrived with a 3.4-liter twin-turbo hybrid V6 that made 437 hp and 583 lb-ft, and that powertrain has served the biggest Toyota hybrid truck through to the present. New Tundras with the hybrid engine start at around $60,000, though, with the most expensive models surpassing $71k. But there’s a lot of value to be had from the used truck market.

2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid trucks can be had for under $50k, but the average price is around $53,000 – higher for low-mileage models or higher-tier grades. These pre-owned trucks make for the best used truck buy because of their value retention – CarEdge says that over 84% of the value is retained in five years of ownership, which is only beaten by the Tacoma (retaining 88% value). Further, if you’re comparing capability, power, and genuine off-road prowess between the Tundra hybrid and Tacoma hybrid, the Tundra is the better value from an efficiency perspective.

“The drivetrain puts its power down to all four wheels via a smooth ten-speed automatic transmission…That torque is immediately apparent off the line, but it comes into its own when off-road and pushes on through just about anything. On the road, it’s one of the Tundra’s smoothest powertrains yet. Toyota pipes in a throaty V8 sound to the cabin that does not represent the real exhaust noise. Thankfully, it can be turned down.”
