For buyers seeking the best luxury SUV for urban environments, Volvo’s strategy with its smallest electric vehicle is an exercise in absolute minimalism. From a structural perspective, the 2026 Volvo EX30 fits a 104.3-inch wheelbase into a package shorter than a Volkswagen Golf. Despite these dimensions, engineers managed to integrate a 69-kWh battery offering up to 261 miles of range in the newly expanded single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration. For raw acceleration, the Twin Motor Performance is the one to go for. It produces 422 horsepower and 400 lb-feet of torque, yielding a 0–60 mph sprint in just 3.4 seconds.
The interior eliminates the traditional gauge cluster in favor of a centralized 12.3-inch touchscreen running Google’s Android Automotive. While this reduces manufacturing costs and cleans up the dashboard, it demands a slight operational learning curve. Maybe a bit longer than usual if you’re not technically inclined.

The Cross Country targets buyers needing a more robust aesthetic, adding 0.75 inches of ground clearance, black 19-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a unique front fascia. However, it trades aerodynamic efficiency for tougher styling, dropping the estimated range to 227 miles. Unfortunately, despite the praise and rapid performance figures, the EX30 and EX30 Cross Country are being discontinued in the US market. The decision is largely driven by global supply chain tariffs that complicated initial import strategies. And as a result, buyers interested in this hyper-minimalist crossover will need to act quickly before it disappears completely.
2027 Infiniti QX65
Infiniti’s push to recapture the aggressive, rear-wheel-drive dynamics of the iconic FX series manifests heavily in the 2027 Infiniti QX65. Rather than utilizing a bespoke performance platform, the engineering team modified the existing QX60 architecture. The result is a striking mid-size fastback that slices away the third-row seating and trims overall cargo volume in exchange for a sweeping roofline and a significantly wider, lower front stance.
The mechanical foundations remain familiar as power is delivered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. While the lack of a hybrid option is a glaring omission, the drivetrain is redeemed by the automatic transmission. The updated throttle mapping and gear logic provide immediate off-the-line response and drastically improved shift times compared to the QX60, as we found in our drive review.

The material selection in upper trims, particularly the Autograph, is exceptional, and open-pore wood, semi-aniline leather surfaces, and a unique stepped dashboard design create a visual separation for the driver and passenger. Infiniti wisely retained physical switchgear for critical functions, pairing it with an intuitive, lag-free infotainment setup.
2026 Audi Q3
Audi’s 2026 overhaul of the Q3 platform alters its market positioning. It shifts the SUV from a slightly compromised entry-level option into a technologically advanced, highly viable contender. Moving to a revised architecture, the new Q3 relies on a potent 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 255 hp and 273 lb-ft. Crucially, Audi abandoned the sluggish torque-converter automatic in favor of a sharp seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. And armed with standard quattro all-wheel drive and launch control, this SUV now hits 60 mph in a verified 5.5 seconds.
Visually, the exterior borrows cues from the larger Q5 and Q6 e-tron, utilizing a split-headlight design and a broader, octagonal grille. The US market receives a specific fixed suspension tune that prioritizes compliance over European-market adaptive dampers, yet the chassis retains a high degree of torsional rigidity and flat cornering dynamics. Inside, the cabin layout revolves around the new Digital Stage architecture. The dashboard features a 12.8-inch MMI touchscreen integrated alongside an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit. Usage has been somewhat simplified, and critical features like full-map instrument cluster integration have returned. US-bound models benefit from standard panoramic glass roofs and heated partial-leather seating.

Positioned to replace the ubiquitous XC60, this all-new 2027 Volvo EX60 represents a massive leap forward in both software stability and battery density. And yes, it is squarely targeting the dominant German stalwarts.
Volvo prioritized aerodynamic slickness without compromising the traditional wagon-inspired utility that loyalists demand. The front fascia utilizes smooth, wind-cheating surfaces and distinct Thor’s Hammer headlights, while the rear profile introduces a sharp, “bow-and-arrow” D-pillar treatment that squares off the beltline. The integration of stealthy, wing-shaped window-sill door handles and frameless side mirrors further cuts aerodynamic drag, and this contributes to the EX60’s highly competitive 400-mile estimated range. This theoretical driving range neutralizes range anxiety for the average American commuter.

One of the EX60’s party tricks is its packaging flexibility. Whether configured in the base P6 or the high-output P10 trim, the powertrains deliver linear, silent, and immediate torque mapping. The standard integration of the NACS (North American Charging Standard) port guarantees seamless access to the broadest, most reliable charging infrastructure.
On the inside, Volvo course-corrected the extreme minimalist missteps seen in smaller models, like the EX30. The result is a cabin that feels like an upscale space straight from an architectural magazine. The fit and finish are universally excellent, and we picked up that it completely avoids the panel squeaks and software glitches that have plagued early EVs from all around the industry.
The EX60 takes the win because it refuses to compromise, as we found in our drive review. The EX60 arrives at a time when BMW’s iX3 caused a ton of excitement for it’s class-leading technology, far superior range and charging specs, and actually presents as a fun-to-drive EV. Its other rival comes in the form of the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology, which means Volvo can’t play it safe with what it brings to the table. The EX60 is the brand’s first dedicated software-defined vehicle, built around an in-house engineered computing system with bespoke software that has been stack coded, developed, and engineered exclusively for Volvo. All of this boils down to a car that actually improve over time – and that’s on top of the excellent specs and competitive range and charging times. Volvo has a real winner on its hands with the EX60 – and we can’t wait for the showdown with the iX3 and electric GLC.
