- Tesla’s Shanghai plant exported 36,171 vehicles in June, up a sharp 257.60% year-on-year.
Tesla’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) June delivery breakdown in the Chinese market shows that the Model Y remains the clear workhorse, while domestic demand for the Model 3 is weakening.
In June, Tesla delivered 52,920 vehicles in China, down 13.93% year-on-year, though up 11.93% from May, according to CnEVPost’s calculations based on data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Of that total, the Model Y saw 38,654 deliveries in China, down 13.81% year-on-year but up a sharp 33.70% from the previous month. The model accounted for 73.04% of Tesla’s China deliveries for the month.
The Model 3 had 14,266 deliveries in China, down 14.25% year-on-year and down 22.34% month-on-month, making up 26.96% of the month’s China deliveries.

Tesla Model 3 monthly sales in China
2024
2025
2026
In the first half of this year, the Model Y racked up 172,513 deliveries in China, up a slight 0.60% year-on-year. By contrast, the Model 3 had 66,442 deliveries in China over the same period, down a steep 27.72% year-on-year.
This divergence suggests that, amid a wave of new model launches from domestic rivals, the Model 3 is under markedly greater pressure in the Chinese market than the Model Y.
In contrast to the soft deliveries in China, the Shanghai plant’s export performance was strong. In June, the Shanghai plant exported 36,171 vehicles, up a sharp 257.60% year-on-year, although down 6.54% from the previous month.

China-made Tesla Model Y monthly exports
2024
2025
2026
Exports accounted for 40.60% of Tesla China’s wholesale sales in June. In the first half of this year, the Shanghai plant exported a cumulative 228,994 vehicles, up 126.58% year-on-year.
Buoyed by exports, Tesla China’s overall wholesale sales reached 89,091 units in June, up 24.43% year-on-year, marking an 8th consecutive month of year-on-year growth and the highest monthly figure so far in 2026.
In the second quarter, Tesla China’s wholesale sales totaled 254,551 units, up 32.77% year-on-year. Of that, the Shanghai plant exported 128,394 vehicles, exceeding its 126,157 deliveries in China in a single quarter for the first time in history.
Still, the persistent weakness in China deliveries remains a concern. In the second quarter, Tesla’s deliveries in China fell 2.05% year-on-year, a fifth consecutive quarterly decline, accounting for just 26.28% of its global deliveries — the first time below 30% since the fourth quarter of 2020.
For comparison, Tesla’s global deliveries reached 480,126 vehicles in the second quarter, up 24.99% year-on-year, meaning growth momentum came mainly from markets outside China.
Intensifying domestic competition is an important backdrop. In June, Leapmotor (HKEX: 9863) overtook Tesla China with wholesale sales of 93,376 units, while industry leader BYD (HKEX: 1211) held the top spot with 397,292 units in passenger new energy vehicle (NEV) wholesale sales.
Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) and Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) both also set new monthly delivery records for the year to date in June.
BYD sold 557,090 BEVs in the second quarter, about 77,000 units more than Tesla’s 480,126.
