Subaru Sales Show Some Interesting Insight
We’ve added some relevant insights from Subaru’s June sales reports that put the decision to do away with certain models in perspective.
Subaru is making some small changes to its popular Crosstrek for 2027. The lineup will see some cuts, with one of the gas trims gone, and it will get some new color options. But the Crosstrek will also get one very appreciated feature that most of the rest of the Subaru lineup also enjoys for 2027: The price will stay the same.
The 2027 Subaru Crosstrek starts from $26,995, with just a $55 increase to the destination fee adding to the cost. That bumps the starting MSRP to $28,470. Here’s what else is happening with Subaru’s popular small SUV.

Keeping prices level is Mission: Impossible in 2026, or at least it feels like it in the automotive world. Still, Subaru has managed to do it on the Ascent, Trailseeker, Solterra, and now the Crosstrek. The amount you pay is higher due to that small increase in the freight charge, but even $55 is impressive when fuel prices are sky-high.

Subaru is dropping the gas-only Crosstrek Sport for 2027, leaving the Crosstrek Sport Hybrid. Sport, in the case of this compact crossover, means dark grey wheels and yellow accents for the fog-light surrounds. It also comes with sport cloth seats, and the hybrid starts from $35,470 with a $1,475 destination fee.
Color changes include a new Ignition Red replacing Pure Red and Lithium Red Pearl. Tidepool Teal Pearl replaces Alpine Green, and hybrid models get the option of a new color called Sapphire Blue Pearl. The hybrid-exclusive Sand Dune and Citron Yellow remain on the options list.

It’s refreshing for any modern car to have the same starting price it did last year, even if there aren’t any big changes either.
Other trim grades include the base Crosstrek, Premium, Limited, and the lifted and ruggedized Wilderness model with gas-only power. Limited adds more driver assists, including lane keep assist, and blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alerts. Gas models use a 2.5-liter boxer-four that makes 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. AWD comes standard.

Hybrid Continues To Offer More Power, Better MPG

Hybrid models include Sport and Limited, and they add an electric motor to the 2.5-liter four for a total of 194 hp. Gas models get an EPA estimated 26 mpg city, 33 highway versus 36/36 for the hybrid. A power glass moonroof is now standard on hybrid Limited.
Aside from the motor, there’s one more big difference between gas and hybrid Crosstreks. The gas models are built at Subaru’s US factory in Lafayette, Indiana, while hybrids are built in Gunma, Japan.

The bigger changes to the Crosstrek line happened last year. Subaru dropped the anemic 2.0-liter four for the 2.5, though the small engine was only offered on the base grade. Limited and Wilderness models gained a standard heated steering wheel, and the hybrid system was a new addition for the year.

In the Japanese brand’s sales reports for June 2026, the Subaru Forester took a firm lead for best-selling vehicle form the brand for a sixth month in a row. For the Crosstrek, however, it was the best June ever, with 16,050 Crosstreks finding new homes. Overall, the brand showed an 18.1% increase compared to the previous year.
Most importantly, however, is that Subaru reports hybrid and electric vehicle sales increased, accounting for over 20% of all vehicles sold. The automaker likely has this in mind when pruning its current lineup of base models that don’t offer a hybrid option.

Affordability is more than just lowering prices. Keeping prices the same against inflation over 4% isn’t quite the same as a cut, but it is almost the same.
Value has long been one of Subaru’s key features, along with its near-universal standard all-wheel drive. The company’s 2027 pricing strategy has, so far, reflected that. Though we have to mention the mid-year increases in May 2025 that saw Subaru raise prices by up to $2,000 after US tariffs were implemented, including $750 for the Crosstrek. The current MSRP is $1,300 higher than it was at the start of model year 2025.
