Standard Motor Products has entered into a split joint venture with Techstrong Holdings Limited to create Techstrong Electronics (Thailand) Company Limited.

The move expands its manufacturing footprint in automotive sensors while seeking to strengthen supply chain resilience.

The new venture, known as SMP Techstrong, gives SMP a 50 per cent stake in an established sensor supplier and increases the company’s direct involvement in the development, manufacturing and delivery of sensor products.

SMP said the investment will enhance its capabilities across key sensor categories and provide additional resources to support product coverage and quality. The company has long emphasized manufacturing involvement in core product lines as part of its aftermarket strategy.

The facility, located in Thailand, also supports SMP’s efforts to diversify its global supply chain. The company said the investment reduces reliance on China while maintaining production capacity within a competitive manufacturing region.

“This joint venture represents an important step forward in our commitment to our customers,” said Hap Acee, vice-president of Asian operations for SMP. “By investing in manufacturing and deepening our partnership with Techstrong, we are strengthening our ability to deliver the quality, coverage and value that our customers expect from SMP.”

SMP said the joint venture will help strengthen product availability while providing a foundation for future growth in sensor manufacturing.
