It’s common for automakers to snap up loads of trademarks for different names. Some might be ones they’re planning to build, others are ones they’re considering, and some are just renewals or corrections to make sure that they don’t lose the merchandising rights for cars from the past. One automaker has just filed for trademarks for two very familiar names, Viper and EVO, and for once you really won’t believe who it was.
A Viper From A Country Where You Might Actually Find One
VinFast VF 3 Electric Mini-SUVVinFast
The next Viper and future EVO? They are coming from VinFast. The upstart automaker has met with mixed success in the US, but it is still very big in its home market of Viet Nam. It could get even bigger as it brings the VinFast Viper and VinFast EVO to market there.
There are a few strange things going on here, and that Viper is already established as a Dodge (or SRT) model and EVO is synonymous with Mitsubishi is just one. The names are also completely out of pattern with the models VinFast sells now. All of those vehicles have a pattern of VF followed by a number. The line ranges from the VF 3, the smallest, to VF 9, the largest.
Viper and EVO are just the start of a wild list of names. The company has trademarked another sound-alike in the form of Subab. Then there are the ones that sound like you’ll find them on the shelf at the drugstore including the Saxil and Sulad.
The rest of the names are equally odd. Kyo, Surad, Flaxx, Sadie, Kinet, Rasad, Sudub, and Feliz II.

That’s not even factoring in tax credits, but will Americans warm to a tiny EV from an unproven brand?
Is VinFast planning on changing its entire car line name structure? It isn’t, and the II in Feliz II is the clue there. VinFast makes more than just electric cars, it also makes electric scooters and the first Feliz is one of those.

Don’t Expect Viper Vs Viper Or Evo Against Evo Anytime Soon
Don’t expect to see the VinFast Viper EVO as a four-wheeled electric beast ready to tear up the racetrack or lay a big set of tire marks down Woodward Avenue in Detroit. Instead, it’s one of the company’s e-scooters, as scooters and small motorcycles are incredibly popular in its home country.
So, instead, you’ll find the $1,730 Viper tearing up the streets of Hanoi, instead. Oh, and you can save about $200 if you don’t get a battery, though we’re not sure exactly how you’re going to drive it that way.
If the Viper is too much for you, the EVO comes with Vespa vibes and a price of just $760. Sadie and Saxil will be the “luxury” models, with 6 horsepower motors instead of the four of the Viper, and a top speed of 50 mph.
