    • The Halo series is Firefly’s first product line centered on design-driven development.
    • Display vehicles from the Halo series will begin arriving at Firefly stores across China on July 20.

Firefly, Nio Inc’s (NYSE: NIO) premium compact electric vehicle (EV) brand, unveiled its new Halo series on Friday, saying the first model in the lineup will make its official debut on July 20.

Firefly shared several teaser images of the model, highlighting its body finish, softly illuminated logo and wheel details combining light and shadow.

An event will begin at 7:00 pm Beijing Time on July 20 at the Shanghai Botanical Garden, where Firefly will reveal more of the design thinking behind the vehicle’s colors, materials and details, the brand said.

Display vehicles will begin arriving at Firefly stores across China on July 20, allowing consumers to view the model in person.

Halo is Firefly’s first product series centered on design-driven development. It is intended to observe and distill urban life and the mood of the times, translating them into a distinctive design language, Firefly said.

As the starting point for the series, Firefly introduced its 2026 “Light of the Year,” called “Inner Glow.” The concept draws inspiration from the soft and steady blue-green glow of the blue ghost firefly, which inhabits deep forests.

Firefly said the glow will serve as the design starting point for the first model in the Halo series. Kris Tomasson, Nio’s senior vice president of design, explained the design philosophy behind the series in a video.

The launch of the new series means Firefly will expand from its current single-model lineup to a multi-model portfolio, potentially supporting the brand’s next phase of sales growth.

Firefly currently has only 1 model on sale. It is the lowest-priced vehicle in Nio Inc’s portfolio and is aimed primarily at younger consumers and the urban commuting market.

The model starts at 119,800 yuan ($17,690) in China for outright vehicle purchases, while the higher-spec version starts at 125,800 yuan. Under the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental plan, the starting price falls to 79,800 yuan.

Firefly began its first deliveries on April 29, 2025, and said on Thursday that cumulative deliveries had surpassed 70,000 units, about 15 months after deliveries began.

The brand delivered 6,946 vehicles in June, up 76.7% year-on-year and marking its second-highest monthly total on record.

Firefly delivered 29,172 vehicles in the first half of the year, up 271.9% year-on-year and accounting for 15.26% of Nio Inc’s total deliveries during the period.

Firefly has started battery swap beta testing at pioneer stations in six cities, paving the way for full access to Nio’s battery swap network.
