    • Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province in central China, is a major industrial and commercial hub along the Yangtze River.
    • Nio Day 2026 will return to a year-end schedule, as the company also revived its tradition of letting users vote on the host city this year.

Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) will hold Nio Day 2026, its most important annual event, in Wuhan, after the central Chinese city beat Harbin and Xiamen in a user vote.

The company announced the voting results on Saturday evening Beijing Time. The vote drew a cumulative total of 490,377,349 votes, with community users’ Nio Points serving as the voting value.

In the final voting round, Wuhan received 178,854,028 votes, while Harbin and Xiamen received 160,690,828 and 150,832,493 votes, respectively.

Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province in central China, is a major industrial and commercial hub along the Yangtze River with a history of 3,500 years.

Nio said the enthusiastic participation of its users allowed the company to feel the unique charm of the three cities. Preparations for Nio Day 2026 have now officially entered the execution phase, it said.

The three candidate cities made their presentations through channels including the Nio App from July 14 to 17. Each user was able to vote with their Nio Points from July 17 to 18.

Harbin, Wuhan and Xiamen were the candidate cities that emerged from a field of eight bidding cities, with the others being Changchun, Chongqing, Jinan, Nanjing and Qingdao.

User groups from the eight cities completed their bid presentations on July 4, and the three cities were nominated after a comprehensive evaluation by the organizing committee.

Nio Day is Nio’s most important event of the year, and each edition has featured major product and technology launches since it was first held in Beijing in 2017. Nearly 10,000 users gather in the host city each year to witness the debut of new products.

This is the sixth year that Nio has determined the location of Nio Day through a city bidding process. The mechanism, in place since 2020, is designed to let the user community decide where the event is held.

Last year, however, was an exception. Nio directly selected Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, as the host city in 2025 without a user vote.

Nio Day 2025 was held in Hangzhou on September 20 last year, marking the first time the event was moved from the end of the year to the fall. The change was partly aimed at controlling costs, while also seeking to capitalize on the fourth-quarter sales peak.

This year, Nio handed the choice back to its user community, marking a return to its tradition of user co-creation. The event will also return to its year-end schedule in December.

According to the previously announced bidding requirements, candidate cities had to provide 10 consecutive days of availability between December 1 and December 31, 2026, and must not have hosted a Nio Day in the past eight years.

Last year’s event served as the official launch stage for the third-generation ES8 SUV (sport utility vehicle). The high-margin model, which starts at 406,800 yuan ($60,060), has become a key driver of the company’s improving performance.

It remains unclear what products or technologies Nio will unveil at Nio Day 2026. The company has typically used the event to launch major new models or core technologies.

Nio founder William Li spoke as an alumni representative at Peking University’s 2026 undergraduate commencement ceremony.
