Maserati’s Refreshed 2027 Lineup Is Proof The Italian Brand Still Has A Heartbeat

Despite all the talk and rumors over the last couple of years about the company possibly being sold, Maserati is still standing. More than that, actually – it’s moving forward with small but notable updates to its entire lineup, save for the MCPura. These days, entire lineup means three cars, or four if you lump the GranTurismo hardtop and GranCabrio convertible together. But still, it’s a step forward. Any step forward is a good one.

The Gran twins, along with the Grecale SUV, roll towards 2026 with a little nip and tuck on the outside, a few modest changes within, and a bit more beef under the hood. Let’s take a closer look at the changes.

    Styling To The ‘Xtrema’

All three Maseratis gain a fresh face, and we mean that literally since the bulk of the exterior updates are found right at the front. Klaus Busse, Maserati’s head of design, explained the sharper edges were influenced by the company’s hardcore MCXtrema track-only supercar. Those changes ultimately influenced the road-going MCPura, and now, it’s the corporate look for Maserati’s lineup.

For the GranTurismo and GranCabrio, that means the friendly oval-shaped grille is gone, replaced by an angry hexagon that’s notably larger, dipping all the way to the chin spoiler. On either side, squared-off corner vents bring a measure of symmetry to the new look. Curiously, the headlights – which are popular elements to change for a refresh – are exactly the same. The taillights are new, however, as are the wheels. These changes apply to the electric Folgore as well as the combustion models.

Buyers also get several new exterior colors to choose from, and on the inside, there’s an updated race-inspired steering wheel, a revised digital clock in the dash, and a new PRND gear selector below the center touchscreen that utilizes metal controls.

    Not As Extreme On Grecale

Maserati’s SUV also gets a new front fascia, but you’ll have to squint to see the changes there. Look down low, and you’ll spot revisions to the lower grille, which is a bit more pronounced for a wider appearance. The bumper has slightly more shark to its “shark-nose” shape, and there are small integrated vertical vents outside the primary corner vents that funnel air along the wheel wells.

Like the GranTurismo, there are new wheel options on the outside. For the interior, there’s the updated steering wheel, digital clock, and the redesigned PRND buttons.

“This journey actually began with the MCXtrema, a track-only car which allowed us to experiment, try new things. And in that case, we evolved our face into something more horizontal, more sharp, more aggressive.”

More Power, More Range, More Nettuno

    2027 Maserati GranTurismo GranCabrio GrecaleMaserati

It’s clear that Maserati loves its 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 engine. For 2027, the Grecale around the world gets the detuned 385-horsepower version that was announced last year for America. It’s offered in a new trim, simply called the Grecale V6, with the Modena V6 serving as the midrange model. The Grecale Trofeo is still the flagship gas SUV, still making 523 hp from its version of the engine.

The electric Folgore has 542 hp from its dual-motor electric powertrain. Maserati says range is up a few miles thanks to a new Air Grille Shutter system, along with aero tweaks improving airflow up front and under the car. The maximum range, depending on options and tire choices of course, sits at 268 miles.

The latest from Maserati makes the MC20 a little more refined and a little better performing, but the name needs work.

Maserati didn’t have much to say about the electric GranTurismo or GranCabrio Folgore, but they are still wicked-quick with their tri-motor powertrains delivering over 750 hp and shooting to 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds. However, the Italians did give its most-powerful gas-powered GT cars a power upgrade. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio Trofeo now have 582 hp from their twin-turbocharged V6 engines – a 40-hp bump from before – thanks to an engine recalibration that added some boost. The torque curve is also broader, and the exhaust is revised slightly for a better V6 scream.

New Country Mode That Definitely Isn’t A Rally Mode

    2027 Maserati GranTurismo GranCabrio GrecaleMaserati

Perhaps of greater interest to some is a new driving mode for the GranTurismo and GranCabrio called Country Mode. Maserati was a bit coy about how this mode might be used, but when activated, the suspension raises the car about 1 inch and the powertrain is recalibrated to handle the changes.

Officially, Maserati says this mode is for drivers who may encounter “rougher” roads and need a bit more clearance for obstacles. Unofficially, while fielding questions from media during the product reveal, Maserati Head of Engineering Davide Danesin was choosing his words carefully. He steered clear of any mention regarding rally-style driving or bombing down back roads at speed. He did mention “off-road” at one point, but this certainly isn’t an off-road vehicle, and it doesn’t sound like a proper off-road mode.

Is this the best deal in new car history?

Still, a higher ride height with recalibrated suspension and an engine that turns all four wheels? It’s not exactly a big step to envision a higher-riding GranTurismo getting a little sideways into a right three over crest, opens to right five into straight 400. Color us intrigued.

    Pricing And Availability

    2027 Maserati GranTurismo GranCabrio GrecaleMaserati

The new-look GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Grecale will go on sale later this year, sometime after summer, according to Maserati. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date, but the Italians want you to know their new configurator is already up and running, waiting for buyers to build the new Maserati of their dreams.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

Maserati desperately needs to show buyers that it’s not merely idling or worse, waiting for Stellantis to sell the farm to another company. This is a relatively small update, and in the grand scheme of things, it’s likely a minimal investment. But it is a step forward – Maserati is rallying around a new corporate design language, and it appears Stellantis is still committed to the brand. Whether the changes bring buyers into showrooms is unknown. But perhaps the real victory here is to show the world that Maserati is moving forward.
