Lucid is trying to shift the conversation back to future product, and the company gave enthusiasts two reasons to pay attention during its latest earnings update. CEO Silvio Napoli shared new images of the upcoming Cosmos, a smaller electric SUV that will ride on Lucid’s new midsize platform, while also confirming that a sportier version of the Gravity will be revealed later this month at Monterey Car Week. The Cosmos is especially important because it represents Lucid’s next step below the Air sedan and Gravity SUV. Napoli confirmed that a sportier version of the three-row electric SUV will debut at Monterey Car Week, though the company has not yet detailed what upgrades are coming. The obvious comparison is the Lucid Air Sapphire, the wild 1,234-horsepower performance sedan that turned Lucid into more than just an efficiency story. Whether the hotter Gravity uses the Sapphire name or simply borrows some of that performance philosophy, it should help add excitement to a vehicle Lucid badly needs to scale successfully.
Lucid still has plenty to prove. The company is cutting costs, resetting operations, and trying to avoid repeating past launch mistakes as it brings new vehicles to market. But the Cosmos and sportier Gravity show that Lucid is not standing still. If the Gravity performance model can build buzz in the near term and the Cosmos can bring Lucid’s technology to a more attainable SUV segment in 2027, the brand may have a stronger path forward than the recent headlines suggest.
