    • The first Indonesia-assembled B10 and C10 vehicles are expected to begin deliveries in August.
    • Leapmotor has become one of the few Chinese EV brands with 2 KD production bases in Southeast Asia.

Leapmotor (HKEX: 9863) has entered the Indonesian market and begun local assembly, as the Stellantis NV (NYSE: STLA)-backed Chinese electric vehicle maker accelerates the buildout of its manufacturing footprint in Southeast Asia.

Leapmotor showcased the B10 and C10, 2 of its global models, at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2026) and officially announced its entry into the Indonesian market, according to a statement on Friday.

The company and Indonesia’s Indomobil Group jointly announced that local knock-down (KD) assembly will be carried out by the latter’s PT National Assemblers unit.

The KD plant began operations in April, and the first locally assembled B10 and C10 vehicles are expected to begin deliveries to Indonesian customers in August.

This gives Leapmotor a dual-base local manufacturing footprint in Southeast Asia, covering Malaysia and Indonesia. The company said it has become one of the few EV brands with 2 KD production bases in the region.

Local assembly offers significant cost benefits in Southeast Asia. Indonesia imposes high tariffs on fully imported vehicles, while local production can avoid some of those costs and make it easier to qualify for government incentives for EVs.

For sales, Leapmotor will adopt the Stellantis Brand House model, with its vehicles sold alongside brands including Jeep and Citroën.

PT Indomobil National Distributor will be responsible for local sales and network development.

Leapmotor plans to establish 50 sales and service outlets in Indonesia by the end of 2026. Indomobil is one of Indonesia’s largest automotive dealership groups, with a nationwide distribution network.

The B10 and C10 displayed at the auto show are both global strategic models for Leapmotor. In China, the refreshed B01 sedan currently starts at 95,800 yuan ($14,110), while the refreshed C10 SUV starts at 125,800 yuan.

Leapmotor has expanded its presence to more than 40 countries, with over 2,000 sales outlets and cumulative global deliveries exceeding 1.5 million vehicles.

The company said it plans to introduce 1 new model annually in Indonesia and neighboring markets.

Leapmotor’s entry into Indonesia marks another outcome of its global partnership with Stellantis. The European automaker invested in Leapmotor in 2023 and established a joint venture responsible for exports and sales outside China, giving Leapmotor access to an established distribution network.

At the beginning of the year, Leapmotor targeted overseas sales accounting for 20% to 35% of its total. The share approached 30% in the first half of the year.

Leapmotor senior vice president Xu Jun previously said changes in overseas policies and rising fuel prices were accelerating the transition toward vehicle electrification, creating favorable opportunities for the company.

Leapmotor has reiterated its target of delivering 1 million vehicles in 2026, although it achieved only about 35.6% of that goal in the first half.

The company delivered 356,487 vehicles in the first half of the year, up 60.82% year-on-year. Deliveries in June reached 93,376 vehicles, an increase of 94.51% from a year earlier.

That means Leapmotor still needs to deliver about 643,513 vehicles in the second half, or an average of roughly 107,253 vehicles per month. That level would exceed the company’s current monthly delivery record.
